DETAILED DESIGN AND RFP PREPARATION OF A NEW RAILWAY MAINLINE ALONG THE ROUTE OF EXISTING MAINLINE 2 FROM DAMMAM TO RIYADH

Detailed Project Description The scope of works developed by SUMMIT Consultant Company & CONSULTRANS consists in the Design of the extension or duplication of the existing Main Line 2 from Dammam to Riyadh in KSA, all along approximately 550 km. The development of the project is to design the layout of the ML2 taking into account the current conditions and propose the necessary actions to reconciling the new design with the current situation. One of the most important items taken into account for extension of Main Line 2 is the location side of Main Line 1 regarding Main Line 2 between Hofuf and Dammam. Also other interesting elements included are related to over passes, aerial utilities (electric lines, etc…), and underground utilities (oil/water pipelines, etc…) and stations/sidings. These factors created important conditions in the design of the new line that were taken into account. Finally, other elements, like geological and environmental conditions, were delimited. The proposed projected solutions for the different elements affected by the ML2 design are as following: Extension side of the new projected line that should change depending on different conditions, mainly because

of parallel utilities and stations. Furthermore, the existing train circulations and intervals must not be affected. Redesign of over passes to ensure the right clearance for the new projected line and future Main Line 1 if

necessary. Diversions and temporary work on the existing road will be necessary to maintain current vehicles circulation.

Renewal and modification on stations and sidings, to ensure the same use and movements after the extension of ML2.

Construction of Level crossings on the duplication track, and modification of level crossing installations according to the new situation.

Extension of existing culverts for Main Line 2. Redesign or relocation of aerial crossing (mainly electric lines), where could not be enough clearance with new

projected line. Utility works must be redesigned under companies’ requirements. Underground crossing (mainly pipeline crossings), all of which must be protected. As before, all these works must

be redesigned under companies’ requirements. Relocation of canalization installations which are parallel to existing line and that could be affected by the

extension. Demolition and new construction other elements like buildings fence, etc….

Type of services provided The main work stages were structure as below: 1. Data collection, compilation and surveys. 2. Compilation of existing elements (culverts, utilities, over & under passes, level crossings, stations & siding, etc…) and /or existing horizontal and vertical alignments of ML2, 3. Projected situation with horizontal and vertical alignment of the new line and all the elements (culverts, over & under passes, level crossings, utilities, stations & sidings, etc.) 4. Development of Concept design and Detailed Design documents. 5. Development of Tender Documents. 6. Response to queries from bidders.

PRELIMINARY AND DETAILED DESIGN MADINAH DEPOT AND WORKSHOPS FOR THE HARAMAIN HIGH SPEED RAILWAY BETWEEN MAKAH AND MADINAH (HHSR)

Detailed Project Description The Madinah Depot has been designed in order to perform the maintenance works that should be carried out to preserve HST in order to enable its continued use and function, above a minimum acceptable level of performance over its design service life and without unforeseen renewal or major repair activities. Madinah depot is located on the left side of the line, between approx KKPP 427+187 and 431+077 of the Haramain High Speed line, and occupying an area of approx. close to 50 hectares. Railway access is granted by two links to the main line at both plot extremes to ease HST entrances and maximize line capacity. Road traffic access is granted by an approx 3 km connection to an existing road that leads to the 3rd Ring Road Highway. Haramain Railway Depots and Workshops are designed considering to be implementing in two periods depending railway system capacity. The HHR passenger services are initially foreseen to be operated with 55 high speed trains in the First period (2016 – 2027) and with 100 trains during the second period. Maintenance activities will be carried out in the workshop designed which consists of two different areas: Quick maintenance workshop and Heavy maintenance workshop. Both Workshops are designed as single storey spaces with the exception of a couple of relatively small office areas located at first floors. The Quick Maintenance Workshop has a net floor area of 16,650 m2 (450 x 37 m); approximately It has four electrified 450 m tracks with pit, resulting in 8 maintenance positions for individual train set granting access to roof and lateral of the rolling stock. The Heavy Maintenance Workshop has approximately 27600 m2 (120 x 230 m) of net floor area where big periodic inspections and heavy maintenance is performed. Six tracks run across the workshop in the eastern area where train lifting activities can be done. Two of those have pits where locomotive lifting activities will be performed, and the rest of the track will be set on concrete slabs where all areas and equipment needed for component repairing will be located. In Madinah Depot are located also the tracks for trains circulating, train stabling areas, painting and washing facilities, and all facilities necessary for the correct operation of Depot.

Type of services provided Consultrans is part of Spanish Consortium (ASC) formed for the design and construction of the High Speed Railway between Makkah and Madinah, being responsible for the Madinah Depot design among other activities. The project design has taken place in several stages: Concept design, preliminary design and Detailed Design, and all of these complying with the international and KSA standards required. It should be noted that the Madinah Depot is the largest maintenance facility in the High Speed Railway, being besides important because in this workshop will be assembled and tested the railway rolling stock units. The content of the project and design activities developed are summarized as follows: INITIAL DATA DESIGN

Data collection, compilation and surveys Topographic survey Geological and geotechnical studies.

BACKUP OPERATION CONTROL CENTRE (BOCC) AND OPERATION CONTROL CENTRE (OCC) BUILDINGS FOR THE HARAMAIN HIGH SPEED RAILWAY BETWEEN MAKKAH AND MADINAH (HHSR)

Detailed Project Description Backup Operation Control Centre (BOCC) and Operation Control Centre (OCC) are multidisciplinary centres where different tasks are carried out in areas directly related to railway operation, abnormalities management, planning, maintenance, training and other activities. The BOCC building is located closer to the new KAEC Station and consists of five buildings of one storey each one with a total of 4.500 m2 while the OCC building is located in the city of Jeddah and consists of five storeys building with 2.500 m2 each one: total of 12.500 m2. These areas have the focus on the building from the civil works’ point of view (architecture, structures, utilities…), describing items such as: locations, premises, facilities…. to host the operations and systems. These OCC&BOCC building projects collect requirements from: Operational environment: needs of space, rooms, layouts, links between rooms… Technical environment: requirements from the disciplines that have systems to support the operations. External organizations: Additional aspects are taken into consideration in the OCC (and temporally in

the BOCC) as a representative building that has to host the headquarters of HHSR Management. It will contain offices for the Saudi Rail Regulatory Commission, the Railway Police, etc. The requirements in terms of size, location inside the Building will be delivered by the different organizations.

According to above requirements, the BOCC and OCC projects involves the architectural and structural design of buildings, the design of electrical, telecommunications and sanitary installations, roads and urbanizations, drainage and all required installations for the control and management of railway activities. The buildings projects have been performed in accordance with KSA and international regulations and have been supervised by international organizations.
