CALCULATING SRI SUITABILITY ASSUMPTIONS Irrigated Rice Areas Soil Texture - HS: Heavy Soils = Poor Drainage - LS: Light Soils = (Good Drainage) • Slope - Flat = Poor Drainage - Gently Rolling = Good Drainage The overlaying of both maps in a GIS resulted in a coincidence map and table showing the convergence of both themes. This was further reclassified to SRI suitability. This is by assuming that good water control provided by light soils and landscape position would be favorable to SRI cultivation.

CALCULATING SRI SUITABILITYASSUMPTIONS• Irrigated Rice Areas• Soil Texture - HS: Heavy Soils = Poor Drainage - LS: Light Soils = (Good Drainage)• Slope - Flat = Poor Drainage - Gently Rolling = Good Drainage

The overlaying of both maps in a GIS resulted in a coincidence map and table showing the convergence of both themes. This was further reclassified to SRI suitability. This is by assuming that good water control provided by light soils and landscape position would be favorable to SRI cultivation.

Probable Failure of SRI

• The IRRI and PhilRice experimental sites where SRI trials were conducted was classified under Heavy Soils with Poor Drainage.

• Potential SRI Sites in the Philippines under irrigated condition is approximately 302,000 hectares.
