WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 19, 2014SHEEP AND LAMB AUCTION
STATE AND FEDERAL REPORTINGCompared to last week: Slaughter lambs traded mostly steady where comparable sales were noted. Feeder lambs were too thinly traded for an adequate market trend. Slaughter ewes and bucks traded mostly steady to 1.00 higher. Kid goats traded 5.00 – 10.00 higher on goats weighing under 60 lbs, with kid goats weighing over 60 lbs trading 15.00 – 20.00 higher. All other classes of goats traded steady. Trade activity was moderate on good buyer demand. In the sheep supply 41% slaughter lambs, 49% slaughter ewes and bucks and 10% feeder lambs. The goat supply consisted of 79% slaughter kids, 7% slaughter nannies and 14% slaughter billies and wethers. Sheep and lambs sold on a per cwt basis and goats sold on a per head basis unless otherwise noted.
