Sweetness of the Qur’an Class # 2 ()وة ا$رآن

Surah Al Baqarah (سورة ا,قرة) Surah Al Baqarah is the second surah of the Qur’an. It is a Medani surah, revealed after the hijrah of the Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص).

Names of the Surah (أسمآء السورة) Al Baqarah (البقرة): meaning ‘The Cow’. The story of the cow is one of the greatest stories in the Qur’an that teaches us that we need to submit to the command of Allah without exaggerating and without asking too many questions. Az Zahra (الزهرة): meaning the flower or the glow. It shows you the way; manhaj. The Hump (السنام): like the hump of a camel. It is the top. The most noble of people are also called السنام. Al Fisthath (الفسطاط): it is the tent for the leader from which all the commands and instructions come. As if Surah Al Baqarah is the tent of the leader from which all the commands come.

Virtues of Surah Al Baqarah (فضل سورة البقرة) Will come as a cloud interceding for the reader : غمامتان

Taking it is a blessing :أخذها بركة

To leave it is a loss :وتركها حسرة

The magicians cannot confront it :وال تستطيعها البطلة

Abu Umama said he heard Allah's Messenger (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) say: Recite the Qur'an, for on the Day of Resurrection it will come as an intercessor for those who recite It. Recite the two bright ones,

Virtues of Special Ayat in surah Al Baqarah

Ayatul Kursi (آية الكرسي): The best ayah in the Qur’an (افضل آية في القرآن)

. " هو الحى القيوم ال تأخذه سنة وال نوم }

Narrated Ibn al-Asqa’: The Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) came to them in the swelling place of immigrants and a man asked him: Which is the greatest verse of the Qur'an ? The Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) replied: Allah, there is no god but He - the Living, the Self-Subsisting Eternal. No slumber can seize

Him nor sleep.” (Sunan Abi Dawud 4003)

The last two ayahs of Surah Al Baqarah (خواتيم البقرة): It is sufficient for him (كفتاه): meaning it will be sufficient for him against the evil of everyone, or qiyam al layl (the night prayer).

Narrated Abu Mas`ud Al-Ansari: The Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) said, "If one recites the last two Verses of Surat-al-Baqara at night, it is sufficient for him (for that night). (Sahih al-Bukhari 5040)

The main theme of Surah Al Baqarah is how you will follow the manhaj (way).

Ayah 1-20: Types of people (اصناف الناس): in following the manhaj Al Muttaqeen (املتقني): the believers are those who follow the manhaj from inside and outside. Al Kaafireen (الكافرين): the disbelievers are those who do not following the manhaj from inside and outside. Al Munafiqeen (املنافقني): the hypocrites are those who follow the manhaj from outside but not from inside.

Ayah 21- 39: Al Uboodiyah (العبودية): The first command (اول امر ونهي) The first uboodiyah (servitude) (اول العبودية): this is the story of Adam (عليه .(السالم

Ayah 40- 152: The response and the reality of uboodiyah (االستجابة وحقيقة الهبودية): the muttaqeen are the real ones who worship Allah because of their response.

Negative example (مثال سلبي): this is Banu Israel. Positive example (مثال ايجابي): this is about Ibrahim (عليه السالم) and about changing of the qiblah.

The test (االبتالء) Signs of servitude (عالمات العبودية) The life and servitude (الحياة والعبودية) The family and its rulings (االسرة واحكامها) Story of Talut and Jalut (قصة طالوت وجالوت): shows how life is a test, and about their submission and response.

Ayah 254:286: Magnification is the head of servitude (التعظيم رأس العبودية): in order to worship Allah and follow the curriculum with taqwa need to magnify.

Magnification and tawheed (التعظيم والتوحيد) Spending for the sake of Allah is a clear evidence for servitude (الصدقة برهان (العبوديةWorship is for Allah alone (العبادة هلل وحده)

Strengthening the believer's heart (تقوية قلوب املؤمنني): helps them continue following the curriculum. For example, the story of ‘Uzaiz (the one who passed through a village, story of Nimrud, story of Ibrahim (عليه السالم) and the birds, story of thousands who were killed will strengthen belief that Allah is able to resurrect the dead. Islam gives lawful option for forbidden matters (تأتي البدائل): For example, to give sadaqa instead of riba. It includes in it all the pillars of Islam (جاء فيها كل اركان االسالم) First description go the Qur’an is that there is no doubt in it (اول صفة للقرآن ال ريب فيه) Virtue of knowledge (فضل العلم): For example, Allah tells us in the following ayat:

Ayah 29: وهو بكل شيء عليم (and He is the All-Knower of everything.) Ayah 31: وعلم آدم األسماء كلها (And He taught Adam all the names (of everything) Ayah 32: إنك أنت العليم الحكيم (Verily, it is You, the All-Knower, the All-Wise.”) Ayah 67: أعوذ باهلل أن أكون من الجاهلني ("I take Allah's Refuge from being among Al-Jahilun (the ignorants or the foolish).” Ayah 282: واتقوا اهلل ويعلمكم اهلل (So be afraid of Allah; and Allah teaches you.): knowledge needs to be with taqwa.

Repentance of the slave (توبة العبد): is between two tawbah of Allah Allah will guide him to repent (توبة التوفيق) Allah will accept his repentance when he will repent (توبة القبول)

The one who leaves the worship of Allah will be tested with worship of rather than Allah the one who leaves teh truth will be tested with :(من ترك عبادة اهلل ابتلي بعبادة غير اهلل)the falsehood.
