Cathy Jeffcoats has suggested that

“LITTLE FEET” could be a great service project for our SS class.

Page 6: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

There will be hundreds of people entering the doors of the Christian Life Center and we can be Jesus’ hands and feet to our guests.

Page 7: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

In what ways could our class volunteer?

Page 8: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

There is a “Tea Room” for those attending to have refreshments, meet First Baptist members and ask questions they might have about First Jackson.

Page 9: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Our class could provide refreshments and we also could supply hosts in the “Tea Room”.

*You can’t rob God of Hisglory – don’t even thinkabout it!

*Jesus said, “You have your reward.”

Page 23: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

24 “Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glorywhich You have given Me; for You loved Me before thefoundation of the world.”

John 17:20&24 NKJV

If everything we do is for His glory (1 Cor 10:31) and since He gave us Hisglory (John 17:22) and we will behold His glory (John 17:24), shouldn’t we know what His glory is?

Enjoy His Grace,Extend His Glory

Page 30: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

First of all, let's talk about the what, then we'll talk about the why, then we'll talk about the how.

What do we mean by God's glory?

Page 31: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

There are two aspects to God’s glory.

One aspect is the glory that He has in Himself.

Page 32: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Isaiah 6:3 NKJV3 And one (seraph)cried to another and said:“Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; The whole earth is full of His glory!”

Page 34: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

http://thriceholy.net/JPGs/isaiah.jpg

Page 35: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Here the angels state that God has glory. They don't say, "Give Him glory." They say, "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts.

Page 36: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

The whole earth is full of His glory." *The first concept of the glory of God is the glory that's intrinsic to His nature, He has it, we don’t give it to Him.

Page 37: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

It's His by virtue of Who He is. If no man was ever created, if no angel was ever created, would God still be a God of glory? Yes.

Page 38: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

If no one ever gave Him any glory, if no one ever gave Him any honor, if no one ever gave Him any praise, would He still be the glorious God that He is?

Page 39: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Yes, because He was the glorious God He is now before anybody ever did give Him any glory, any praise.

Page 40: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

So God has intrinsic glory.

This is the glory of God's nature.

What is this intrinsic glory?

Page 41: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

His intrinsic glory is the manifestation of all of His attributes.

God's glory is the combination of all of His attributes.

Exodus 33:18-23 NKJV

18 And he (Moses) said, “Please, show me Your glory.”

Page 44: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

19 Then He said, “I will make all My goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious,

Page 45: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.”20 But He said, “You cannot see My face; for no man shall see Me, and live.”

Page 46: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

21 And the LORD said, “Here is a place by Me, and you shall stand on the rock.

Page 47: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

22 So it shall be, while My glory passes by, that I will put you in the cleft of the rock, and will cover you with My hand while I pass by.

Page 48: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

23 Then I will take away My hand, and you shall see My back; but My face shall not be seen.”

Page 50: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Ah! the goodness of God is a big part of His glory. *God's greatest glory is that He is good.

*The brightest gem in the crown of God is His goodness.

Page 51: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Titus 2:9-10 NKJV

9 Exhort bondservants to be obedient to their own masters, to be well pleasing in all things, not answering back,

Page 57: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

10 not pilfering, but showing all good fidelity, that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things.

Titus 2:9-10 NKJV

Page 58: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

*Titus 2:10 does not say that you can adorn God.

*You can't add one thing to God.

*But you can adorn the doctrine of God.

*What does that mean?

Page 59: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

http://executableoutlines.com/charts/adorning%20the%20doctrine%20of%20god.jpg

Page 60: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Adorning the doctrine of God means that you can enhance the teaching of God in the world by your godly behavior.

When we live a holy life, we adorn the doctrine of God, but not God.

Page 63: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

You can live any life you want and it won't affect God.

But it does affect the testimony about God in your world.

Page 64: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

*God has intrinsic glory that we can't do anything about.

*We can't add to it. *We can't take it away. *But we may adorn the doctrine of God.

Page 65: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

On the contrary, man's glory is granted to him.

We talk about men being exalted and honored and so forth but man has no intrinsic glory of his own.

Page 66: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

*The glory that is God's is His in His essence.

*That's His nature. *You can't touch His glory. *It cannot be taken away.*It cannot be added to.*It is His being.

Page 67: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

It's total glory, and it cannot be diminished.

You can strip a king naked, you can defrock a priest, but…

Page 68: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

You can't de-glory God!

Page 69: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

In that sense, concerning His intrinsic glory, we cannot give God glory.

We can't add to His nature.

Page 70: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

If He's infinite grace and infinite mercy and infinite power and infinite love and infinite knowledge and all of these things, there's nothing we can do to add to those infinities.

Page 71: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

All we can do is recognizeit.

All we can do is say, "Yes, it is true. God is glorious!" That's all.

Page 72: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

1 Chronicles 16:23-29NKJV

23 Sing to the LORD, all the earth;Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day.

Page 73: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

24 Declare His glory among the nations,His wonders among all peoples.

Page 74: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Page 75: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Page 76: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

1 Chronicles 16:23-29

Page 79: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Catch the importance of the first word in verse 24, "Declare His glory." Declare it. It's not talking about giving it to Him. He's got it. Just state it so.

Page 80: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Then in verse 27, “Glory and honor are in His presence.”

*His glory is in Him. *That's His nature. *None of these attributes, can be added to.

He does, however, plant His glory within us but He never plants His glory within us or upon us apart from Himself.

Page 90: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

*When we say that He gives His glory to the believer, we mean that He Himself comes to dwell in the believer.

*The glory never becomes ours.

Page 91: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

*It is always His radiating through us.

*God never gives away any of His glory.

*He never diminishes His glory.

Page 92: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

*He may plant His glory in us, but it's still His glory, and, therefore, whatever we do, we do to the glory of God.

*He never gives away His nature.

*He can't.

Heaven is going to be lit with the glory of God!

Page 123: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

*First of all we said that God's glory is that which is His intrinsic nature, His attributes.

*But secondly, there is a glory which is given to God by His creatures.

Page 124: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

*That is when we recognize His glory.

*What does it mean to give God glory?

*Here it is. *It means to magnify His glory before the world.

Page 125: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

*You're not adding to His nature.

*You're enhancing the doctrine about Him.

*In other words, you're enhancing His glory in the eyes of men.

Page 126: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

You're not enhancing His glory in terms of its existence.

It's a question of testimony.

Page 127: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

You're enhancing God’s image in the eyes of men when you give Him glory.

Page 128: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

In Philippians 1:20, Paul said that, "Christ may be magnified in my body."

He didn't mean that Christ needs to be improved on.

Page 129: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

He meant that, in the eyes of the world, Christ needs to be exalted through him.

When we give glory to God, we are not adding to His nature.

Page 130: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

*We are merely revealing Who He really is.

*Go back to 1 Chronicles 16:24.

"Declare His glory among the nations." *We just declare it.

Page 131: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

*You're merely publicly giving testimony to His glory.

*That's the point. *That's the issue. *Now look again at verses 28 and 29.

*That is the second aspect. *We do not add to the intrinsic nature of God.

*We merely enhance the doctrine of God in the eyes of the world when we exalt Him, when we

In other words, give pure testimony by the way you live to the pure glory of God that men might see His glory.

Notice, wherever there is the glory of God, there is the resultant joy.

Page 144: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

There are many things in our world that magnify God.

Creation reveals the glory of God but men can pervert it.

Page 145: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Psalm 19:1 NKJV

1 The heavens declare the glory of God;And the firmament shows His handiwork.

futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.

Romans 1:20-21 NKJV

Page 149: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

We are to give Him glory, not in the sense that we add to His nature, but in the sense that we give testimony to His glory, that we exalt His name.

Psalm 29:1-2 NKJV

Transcendence -(God exists outside of space and time)

Immanence -(God is present within space and time)

Page 162: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

He is both “nearby” and “far away”.

Isaiah 55:9 NKJV“As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

We glorify God by rehearsing His attributes.

Page 167: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Holy:Though all the attributes of God are important and dependent on one another, the fact of God’s holiness seems to be the one He wishes us to put emphasis upon.

Page 168: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

When God revealed Himself to man (Moses, Job, Isaiah, Mount of Transfiguration, etc.) each encounter mentions His holiness.

Page 169: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Isaiah called God “the Holy One” more than 30 times.

Psalm 99:9 says, “the Lord our God is holy.”

Page 170: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

This is the only attribute of God that is repeated three times in Scripture:

Holy, holy, holy!

Page 171: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

God will not set aside His holiness even for His mercy.

Even His love won’t trump His holiness.

Page 172: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Without the authority of the Bible, any attempt to explain God’s attributes would be no better than an opinion, which by itself is often incorrect, especially in understanding God (Job 42:7).

Page 173: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

It is because of God’s righteousness and justice that, in order for our sins to be forgiven, Jesus had to experience God's wrath when our sins were placed upon Him (Exodus 9:27; Matthew 27:45-46; Romans 3:21-26).

Page 174: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

God did not reduce the penalty for our sins since it was His only Son Who was paying the price. As a matter of fact, Isaiah 53:10 says that “it pleased the Lord to bruise Him”.

Page 175: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Isaiah 53:10a NKJV

10a Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise (crush) Him;

Page 176: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Since God is an infinite Being, no human can fully answer this God-sized question of “what are the attributes of God?”, but through God’s Word, we can understand much about Who God is and what He is like.

Page 177: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

May we all wholeheartedly continue to seek after Him (Jeremiah 29:13).

To glorify God is to extol His attributes—His holiness, faithfulness, mercy, grace, love, majesty, sovereignty, power, and omniscience, to name a few—

Page 180: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

rehearsing them over and over in our minds and telling others about the singular nature of the salvation only He offers.

God’s Glory - John 17*What is God’s glory?(Review God’s Attributes)*Why give God glory?*How do we give God glory?

*When do we give it?

Page 182: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Now, you see the what of His glory. Two things: 1) His intrinsic glory, we

don't give that to Him, He has it by His very nature.

Page 183: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

2) By enhancing His name, by exalting His name, by lifting up His name, by praising His name, by honoring His name, we give Him glory in the eyes of the world.

Page 184: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

*That's what we want to concentrate on. *We can't work on the first one. *It's done. *We want to concentrate on the second one, to give Him glory!

Page 185: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

The first question is: What is God’s glory? The second question is: Why should I give Him glory? Why? Here's why.

Page 186: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Psalm 100:3 NKJV3 Know that the LORD, He is God;It is He Who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.

Romans 11:36 NKJV

Page 188: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

*Number one, because He made us and gives us our being and everything else. *We certainly ought to give Him glory!*You know why God deserves the glory?

Page 189: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Proverbs 16:4a NKJV

4a The LORD has made all for Himself.

Page 190: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

He deserves us to give Him glory because He made everything.

He gave us our being, our life, and everything that is.

Page 191: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

*How could we give glory to any other god or any other source? *God does not want us to give His glory to another because there is no one else.

Page 192: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

If we did give glory to someone or something other than God, that would be foolish and not good for us.

God wants the best for us.

Page 193: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Of Jesus it is said, "All things are made by Him and for Him," and that takes us to the second thing.

Page 194: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

We oughta give Him glory because He made everything.

And, secondly, we oughta

give Him glory because He made everything to give Him glory.

Page 195: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

You say, "Was that the purpose?"

Yes.

Proverbs 16:4 says this, "The Lord hath made all things for Himself."

Page 196: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

He made everything to bespeak His glory.

Everything to radiate His glory.

Everything.

Page 197: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Everything is to radiate His attributes, to show His power, to show His love, to show His mercy, to show His wisdom, to show His grace.

Everything.

Page 198: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Colossians 1:15-16 NKJV

15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.

Page 199: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thronesor dominions or principalities or powers.

Page 200: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

All things were created through Him (Jesus) and for Him.

Colossians 1:15-16 NKJV

Page 201: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Yes, we are to glorify Him because He made us.

And, secondly, because He made us to glorify Him.

Page 202: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Some will say, “I'll never glorify God.

God’s people may glorify Him but I'm not going to succumb to that kind of egoism.”

Page 203: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

They may not want to give God glory, but they will, even if they don't choose to.

They'll just give Him glory unwillingly.

Page 204: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

He gets glory out of people who don't want to give Him glory,

He gets glory out of everything, sooner or later.

God said He would get the glory and He got it!And He will get it. He'll get it. Read the rest of the Bible and find out.

Page 208: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

*Everybody gets to the place where He gives God glory, willingly or unwillingly. *Wittingly or unwittingly. *But especially God gets glory from the righteous.

Isaiah 43:19-21 NKJV19 Behold, I will do a new thing,Now it shall spring forth;Shall you not know it?I will even make a road in the wildernessAnd rivers in the desert.

Page 211: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

21 This people I have formed for Myself; They shall declare My praise.

Isaiah 43:19-21 NKJV

Page 213: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Yes, God especially gets glory out of righteous people.

Page 214: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

1 Peter 2:9 NKJV9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him Who called

Page 215: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

you out of darkness into His marvelous light;

1 Peter 2:9 NKJV

That's right. Righteous people declare His praise!

Page 216: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

All right, we ought to give God glory, one, because He made us; two, because He made us to give Him glory, and He'll get it sooner or later anyway.

Page 217: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

We might as well give it willingly, because when we give it willingly, the result is,

"Therefore My heart is glad."

Page 218: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

We also ought to give God glory because He judges those who don't willfully give Him glory.

Page 219: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

If a person refuses the willingness to give glory, God gets His glory, but He judges that person.

That's serious.

Page 220: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Romans 1:21 NKJV21 although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.

Romans 1:24-28 NKJV

24 Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves,

Page 222: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

25 who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

Page 223: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

26 For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature.

Page 224: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.

Page 225: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting;

Romans 1:24-28 NKJV

Romans 1:18 NKJV18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,

Romans 1:18 NKJV

Page 228: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Why should we give God glory? We ought to give God glory because He made us, because He made us to give Him glory, and because He judges those who willfully refuse to give Him glory.

Page 229: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Now look at Revelation 14:6-7

Page 230: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Revelation 14:6-7 NKJV6 Then I saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospelto preach to those who dwell on the earth—to every nation, tribe, tongue, and people—

Page 231: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

7 saying with a loud voice, “Fear God and give glory to Him, for the hour of His judgment has come; and worship Him Who made heaven and earth, the sea and springs of water.”

Revelation 14:6-7 NKJV

Page 232: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

What is the everlasting Gospel? It's the Gospel of judgment against unbelief or against ungodliness or against failure to give God glory.

Page 233: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

This is not the Gospel as we know it simply defined in Christ.

It's much broader.

Page 234: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

It's the Gospel, the News of God that runs throughout time and eternity that God rewards the righteous, and God punishes the wicked.

Page 235: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Eventually God rewards the righteous, and God punishes the wicked.

Page 236: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

In Revelation 14:7 the angel says, "Fear God and give glory to Him." That's the everlasting Gospel in any generation. "Fear God and give Him glory." Why?

Page 237: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

"For the hour of His Judgment is come." What a shocking and a powerful statement that is. "Give God glory because judgment is coming."

Page 238: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Judgment is coming!

Give God glory because judgment is coming.

Page 239: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

God’s Glory - John 17*What is God’s glory?(Review God’s Attributes)*Why give God glory?*How do we give God glory?

*When do we give it?

Page 240: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

How do we give God glory?

Page 241: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

At first, let’s focus on just two of the many ways to glorify God.

Giving God glory begins with receiving Jesus Christ!

Page 242: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

The number one way to give God glory is by receiving Jesus Christ as your Savior and as your Lord.

Page 243: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Philippians 2:9-11 NKJV

9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name,

Page 244: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth,

Page 245: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Philippians 2:9-11 NKJV

Page 246: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

The second way that you give God glory is by intentionally aiming your life at that purpose.

By intentionally aiming your life at glorifying Him.

Page 247: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

You'll never glorify God in your life until you intentionally aim your life at doing that.

Page 248: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

What does intentionally aiming your life at glorifying God include?

Think about the memory verse we are learning this year, 1 Corinthians 10:31.

Page 249: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

1 Corinthians 10:31 NKJV31 Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

1 Corinthians 10:31 NKJV

Page 250: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

The point of our memory verse is not only to eat to the glory of God nor to just drink to the glory of God but the point is that whatever you do, even as mundane as eating and drinking, ought to be done to His glory.

Page 251: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

That is what is meant by intentionally aiming at His glory.

Page 252: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

You're saying to yourself all the time, "I want to do this for His glory. I want to do that for His glory.

Aim your life at the purpose of glorifying God, in everything.

Page 253: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Even Jesus said;

John 8:50a NKJV50a “I do not seek My own glory.”

John 8:50a NKJV

Page 254: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Weymouth New Testament John 8:50I, however, am not aiming at glory for Myself: there is One Who aims at glory for Me--and Who judges.

Page 255: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

John 7:16-18 NKJV

16 Jesus answered them and said, “My doctrine is not Mine, but His Who sent Me.

Page 256: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

17 If anyone wills to do His will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it is from God or whether I speak on My own authority.

Page 257: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

18 He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but He Who seeks the glory of the One Who sent Him is true, and no unrighteousness is in Him.

John 7:16-18 NKJV

Page 258: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

In other words, Jesus is saying:"I live to bring Him glory. I live to radiate His attributes. I live to adorn the doctrine of God.

Page 259: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

I live to exalt God and honor God in the eyes of the world. This is the purpose of My life.“

Jesus

Page 260: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Beware of self-glory. A hypocrite comes along and tries to steal the glory from God.

“I want a little glory for myself."

Page 261: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Look long enough in this, and you may find yourself.

I found myself here.

Page 262: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Free will of man = the possibility of man trying to get some of God’s glory. (that includes me)

Page 263: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Matthew 6:1-4 NKJV1 “Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in Heaven.

Page 264: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

2 Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men.

Page 265: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.

3 But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,

Page 266: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

4 that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father Who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly.

Matthew 6:1-4 NKJV

Page 267: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Can you imagine that?

This guy carries along a few trumpeters to play a little fanfare as he arrives at the temple to drop his coins in the little deal.

Page 268: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Here I am, folks, plunk, plunk, see me? See? I want you to see this.

Matthew 6:2b NKJV2b “As the hypocrites do in the synagogue and in the streets, that they may have glory from men.” Matthew 6:2b NKJV

Page 269: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

If you try to steal God's glory, God doesn't like that.

Beware of self-glory!

Also called vainglory.

Page 270: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

When you aim at God's glory, that automatically means that you aim away from your own glory.

Page 271: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Anything we do in this life, whatever it is eating or drinking or whatever, ought to be to His glory.

Page 272: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Aim always and only and purely at God's glory. If you try to steal a little glory for yourself, you have stolen the blessing away from yourself and lost the joy.

Page 273: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

At a Christian conference, a student asked Dr. Dwight L. Moody if he knew where they had been.

Dr. Moody said “No.”

Page 274: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Then the young man said, “We've been at an all night prayer meeting. See how our faces shine?” Dr. Moody said, “Moses knew not that his face shone.”

Page 275: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Don't try to take any glory from God, don't attempt to steal it from Him. *You're the loser, because you can't get it from Him. *You just come out a hypocrite.

Page 276: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Exodus 34:29 NKJV29 Now it was so, when Moses came down from Mount Sinai, that Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone while he talked with Him.

Page 277: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

*The first principle of aiming at the glory of God is the sacrifice of self. *Aiming at God's glory means this, it means that we prefer Him above all else.

Page 278: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

We're not thinking about how good it is going to make us look.

No.

That's not it.

Page 279: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

If we try to steal any of His glory, we've stolen from ourselves the joy and the blessing of God.

The glory is His, not ours.

Page 280: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Exodus 32:25-29 NKJV25 Now when Moses saw that the people were unrestrained (for Aaron had not restrained them, to their shame among their enemies),

Page 281: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

26 then Moses stood in the entrance of the camp, and said, “Whoever is on the LORD’s side—come to me!” And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together to him.

Page 282: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

27 And he said to them, “Thus says the LORD God of Israel: ‘Let every man put his sword on his side, and go in and out from entrance to entrance

Page 283: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

28 So the sons of Levi did according to the word of Moses. And about three thousand men of the people fell that day.

Page 284: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

29 Then Moses said, “Consecrate yourselves today to the LORD, that He may bestow on you a blessing this day, for every man has opposed his son and his brother.”

Exodus 32:25-29 NKJV

Page 285: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

The glory of God is at stake here.

God wanted to show the world for all time that He shares His glory with no one.

Page 286: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

God said, "Get your swords. Kill your brother."

"My own brother? My own friend, my own neighbor?"

Page 287: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Now comes the question of whether they're gonna do what was needed to be done for the glory of God or what they would do for their own selves.

Page 288: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Exodus 32:28 NKJV28 "And the children of Levi did according to the word of Moses, and there fell of the people that day about three thousand men."

Exodus 32:28 NKJV

Page 289: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

You say, "Why did God have them do that?"

Because God's glory was at stake, and God shares His glory with no other.

Page 290: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

And those people had to pay the price of actually going to kill the people they loved for the sake of the glory of God.

That's a high price, isn't it?

Page 291: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

You, in your life, you aim at God's glory.

When you consider it and prefer it above all other things, whether they be mundane or whether they be human.

Page 292: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Whether they be coins or people...

Are you willing to pay a high price when God’s glory is at stake in your business?

Page 293: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Sounds extreme doesn’t it?

Page 294: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

God was willing to go to the extreme to protect His glory when He did not back off from crushing His only Son in order to keep His justice in tact.

Page 295: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

John 12:27-28 NKJV27 “Now My soul is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save Me from this hour’? But for this purpose I came to this hour.

Page 296: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

28 Father, glorify Your name.”

Then a voice came from heaven, saying, “I have both glorified it and will glorify it again.”

John 12:27-28 NKJV

Page 297: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

In other words, "God, if You're going to get glory out of this, I submit to it."

What does He say?

"'Father, glorify Thy name, whatever it costs Me.'

Page 298: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

And then there came a voice from Heaven, saying, 'I have both glorified it and will glorify it again.'"

Page 299: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Yes, aiming at God's glory means that I'm content to do God's will, whatever it costs.

Page 300: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

The number one way to give God glory is by receiving Jesus Christ as your Savior and as your Lord.

Page 301: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

The second way that you give God glory is by intentionally aiming your life at glorifying Him.

God’s Glory - John 17*What is God’s glory?(Review God’s Attributes)*Why give God glory?*How do we give God glory?

*When do we give it?

Page 304: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

Don’t wait until you can afford it.

Page 305: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

*God is serious about His glory.

*You can’t rob God of His glory – don’t even think about it!

Page 306: 02 February 9, 2014, Glory

*Jesus said, “You have your reward.”

*Be smart, don’t get punished, get rewarded.

*He must increase, I must decrease.
