A quilt hanging in the Guildhall in Londonderry,
representing the plantation people.
Most of the background fabrics are either Donegal or
Harris tweeds. The appliqués are hand painted.
The Cottage (home of the guild)
Building 2, 10 Russell Drysdale St, East Gosford, NSW 2250
Well the Gosford Show has gone and although it was a bit of a disappointment as far as the number of
visitors was concerned those wonderful members who came to woman the stand certainly did us proud –
very good display and Rachel’s homemade loom was very eye catching.
There were only four of us at Community Quilts on Saturday which shows just how many of our faithful
patchworkers are away travelling, spending time with family and just enjoying (hopefully) themselves
doing their own thing. We had a good chatty time, the conversations ranged far and wide and three of
them worked wonders on the next quilt- and I just knitted a square – well I would have done but I had to
undo it once because I was increasing on both ends and it was a very funny shape. Thank you Noelene for
your guidance!
The next General Meeting is on Saturday 14 July at 10 am so it would be good to see you there as there are
a couple of proposals about which the Committee needs YOUR thoughts and ideas.
The last Committee Meeting for the current Committee is at 1 pm on Wednesday 25 June and the AGM is
on Saturday, 12 June at 10 am – the Nomination form is, hopefully, being printed with this newsletter,
please give your consideration to who you would like to be caretakers of the Guild for the next while and
put your nomination forward in good time.
As far as I know the next “happening” is on Saturday, 14 September at the Rudolf Steiner School – so we
need ideas on what activities we can plan and prepare for the children to take part in. Again YOUR input is
requested.
Don’t forget to take good photos of anything you are making with story attached and send it to our new
website – we need up to date information and activities so readers can get a full knowledge of what we all
get up to !!
We have had a proposition from Tuggerah Lakes Community College to hire our cottage for some Saturday classes run by Lindsay Cameron (ex member) for natural fibre (reeds, vines etc) weaving and nuno-felting. She has run these classes at other places but is trying to find a venue closer to where she lives. Lindsay came in last Tuesday to show some of her "art" and we are considering a try out to see how this works out. Positions Vacant page - Website Admin: Ensures the Website is updated on a regular basis.
Hope you are all well and happy and I’ll see you around at The Cottage.
Cheers
Eileen

Gosford Show Shared by Noelene and Raewyn It was a good day on Saturday after we did a very "artistic" set up on Friday, with quite a variety of articles to display. The two big quilt/display hangers made by Gay and Billy were a real boost and made it easy to hang the quilts, and then to be able to attach items to them for display. Thanks so much....(The hangers each now have their own bags which contain all the parts for each hanger.) The rigid heddle loom was quite popular as I think it appealed to people because of its simplicity and smallish size. The raffle was well received and with sales from now till the Annual General Meeting, it should make a good contribution to Guild funds. It was nice to be next to the Bee Keepers display again, with our display and theirs both being hands on for the public.

What a wonderful display and demonstration by the Guild. Many thanks to all those who
helped set up the beautiful display on Friday. Also thanks to those who demonstrated,
chatted to the public, sold raffle tickets and packed everything away on Saturday and
Sunday. It really was a great PR exercise.

Seems to me that half the guild has just been or getting ready to go gallivanting somewhere
either within Australia or Overseas. Life is meant to be enjoyed.
To make life more enjoyable for those who are keeping things going a little note on the
housekeeping front. When borrowing equipment please write a contact phone number in
the book next to your name, also if wishing to use said equipment for an extended length of
time please check with other members to see that no one else wants to use the same
equipment before you have completed your project. It is these little things that make life so
much easier. Thank you Gay.

Lexophile" & Paraprosdokians shared by Eileen
"Lexophile" is a word used to describe those that have a love for punning wordplay, such as "you can tune a
piano, but you can't tuna fish", or "to write with a broken pencil is pointless." A competition to see who can
come up with the best lexphillies is supposedly held every year in an undisclosed location.
This year's winning submission is posted at the very end.
.. When fish are in schools, they sometimes take debate.
.. A thief who stole a calendar got twelve months.
.. When the smog lifts in Los Angeles U. C. L. A.
.. The batteries were given out free of charge.
.. A dentist and a manicurist married. They fought tooth and nail.
.. A will is a dead giveaway.
.. With her marriage, she got a new name and a dress.
.. A boiled egg is hard to beat.
.. Police were called to a day care centre where a three-year-old was
resisting a rest.
.. Did you hear about the fellow whose whole left side was cut off? He's
all right now.
.. When a clock is hungry it goes back four seconds.
.. The guy who fell onto an upholstery machine is now fully recovered.
.. He had a photographic memory which was never developed.
.. When she saw her first strands of grey hair she thought she'd dye.
.. And the cream of the wretched crop:
.. Those who get too big for their pants will be exposed in the end.
Paraprosdokians are figures of speech in which the latter part of a sentence or phrase is surprising or
unexpected; frequently humorous.
Winston Churchill loved them.
1. Where there's a will, I want to be in it.
2. The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But it's still on my list.
3. Since light travels faster than sound, some people appear bright until you hear them speak.
4. If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.
5. We never really grow up, we only learn how to act in public.
6. War does not determine who is right - only who is left.
7. Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit.. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.
8. To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism. To steal from many is research.
9. I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
10. In filling out an application, where it says, 'In case of emergency, Notify:' I put 'DOCTOR'.
11. Women will never be equal to men until they can walk down the street with a bald head and a beer gut,
and still think they are sexy.
12. You do not need a parachute to skydive. You only need a parachute to skydive twice.
13. I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.
14. To be sure of hitting the target, shoot first and call whatever you hit the target.
15. Going to church doesn't make you a Christian any more than standing in a garage makes you a car.
16. You're never too old to learn something stupid.
17. I'm supposed to respect my elders, but it’s getting harder and harder for me to find one now

Wool embroidered bedspread-Montacute House
Page 10
Montacute House has a beautiful
collection of samplers dating from the
16th century(The Goodhart Collection).
This is just one of many Sampler, dated 1747, Mary Postle. Wool
embroidered with coloured silks using long
and short, buttonhole, cross, satin and
Algerian eye stitches. Rows of alphabets,
numerals, narrow repeating border patterns
and verses, surrounded by a border of natural
flowers rising from a basket at the bottom.
Verse and inscription 'Great God
compassionate and mild, Forgive the follies of
a child. Teach me to pray and mind thy word.
That I may learn to fear the Lord. Wrought by
Mary Postle in 1747'.
The coats of arms establishes the date of the bed as 1612. The cover which was
originally the curtain surrounding the bed is all wool embroidery
