Assembly
· Taking care not to apply pressure to themain body keys, attach the foot joint tothe body with a gentle twisting motion.
· Attach the head joint in the same manner, using the marks on each joint as a guide.
To keep your instrument in optimum playing condition,have it cleaned and inspectedby a qualified repair technicianannually.
Care for the Interior of the Flute
Cleaning the Body and Pads
· Insert the corner of a clean cotton cloth through thesmall hole at the top of the cleaning rod. Wrap clotharound the rod, making sure no metal parts areexposed.
· Insert gently into foot , body and head jointsindividually, and twist.
· When drying a pad, insert cleaning paper between itand the tone hole and press down lightly, carefullypulling the paper away.
Care for the Exterior of the Flute
· For daily care, wipe the entire length of the body with a polishing cloth, being careful not to apply pressure to the keys. Wipe down the keys, taking care not to scratch them or damage the pads.
· Silver-plated instruments should be polished using a speciallytreated cloth
Cleaning the Tone Holes
Use a tone hole cleaner to clean the space under and between the keys.

Getting started
· Sit up straight on the edge of a chairwith your feet flat on the floor.
· Keep thumbs straight, fingers curvedand close to the keys.
· Flute should be angled slightly downwith elbows out.
Making your first sound
Using only the head joint;
· Cover the end with your right hand.place the head joint on your chin sothat the hole is covered slightly byyour lower lip.
· Form your lips as if saying “too.”
· Take a full breath. Exhale across thehole and play a long steady tone.
Tuning
· Pitch is affected by temperature, so warm up the instrument before playing by blowing air through it.
· To tune, pull head joint slightly awayfrom the body. The length you pull the head joint out depends on individualpreference and method of playing.
