Leon Haslam’s special edition Arai helmet will be available to customers in the UK, with 250 of the limited edition “Eng-land” helmets going on sale. Alstare Suzuki Team rider Leon Haslam demonstrated his support for England’s football team in South Africa when he wore a unique and commemo-rative Arai helmet especially prepared for South Africas sixth round of the World Superbike Championship at Kyalami. The 19th World Cup Finals get under way in South Africa next month and Haslam, a keen Manchester United fan, is lending his support to Fabio Capello’s men with this special design. The artwork features Haslam’s own adaptation of the England’s three lions crest first used in the 1100s by King Henry II and synonymous with King Richard I The Lionheart in the late 1100s. The St Georges Cross is featured on the rear of the helmethe helmet, along with Haslams 91 logo a large, golden lions head at each side. The rear of the helmet also features the shape of the FIFA World Cup Trophy that replaced the Jules Rimet Trophy from 1974 and is painted in the colours of the South African flag. And the base of the helmet is a reminder of Englands one and only success in the World Cup

I first met Pete Gibson at Oulton Park British Super-bikes in May. He was display-ing two RAF decaled R6 with a team called Roundall Racing , used in endurance racing.

Roundall Racing is a play on words with the RAF decal and the fact that the team is doing all the rounds!

TThe team first started in 2008 with two Aprilia 1000 bikes ridden by Simon [shiny] Allen and Dave Rose.

PPete came up with the idea of combining racing with pro-moting the RAF using the bikes RAF design.

The team is an endurance racing team in the 600 cc class consisting of two bikes in RAF colours. Both bikes sport the number 74 plate because the two riders favou-rite numbers are 4 and 7!

The RAF team is sponsored by RAF Careers and Babcock De-fence Services.

This year Pete and the team are racing in the Na-tional 3 hour 600 Series in the RAF colours. Pete and Shiny are riding the 600 ‘s no 74, Pete’s bike, an R6 has a power commander, MMaxton suspension and puts out a 110 bhp at the back wheel .Shiny is riding a Honda CBR 600 similar set up but with WP Suspension. Pete told me he is trying to raise awareness with Bike Safe and other bike safety campaigns as ser-vice men who have been in warzones are coming back feeling invincibleand dying on high pow-ered machines. You can see the team on display at BSB BTCC Che-sire and Anglesey shows, the Charmondleigh Pag-eant of Power and Rhyl Air Show. Pete has also entered the Manx GP for the fourth year. This year riding in the Junior, Senior, and Ul-tralightweight class .Pete is looking for spon-sorship and won the Manx GP Senior team award riding with the HMRC team along with fellow riders Grant Wag-staff ,Jamie Adams.

Roundall Racing

The team first started in 2008 with a line up of Shelley Pike Simon [Shiny] Allen and and Pete Gibson and a mate photographer, Shaun Finch. TThey had first major success in 2007 when they won the HMRC National Superstock Endurance Championship. The original plan was to ride Shelley’s bike [R6] but after a serious crash in the National 6 hour Endurance first first race at Mallory Park riding for Hottrax Motorsport Club, the bike was totally destroyed for 6 months. The decision was then taken to ride in the Junior Tag 3 Hour En-durance Series named Tag be-cause the fact that the two riders just hand over the tran-sponders and carry on. Each rider riding for half an hour, riding 2 bikes with Pete on his R6 and as Pete puts it, Shiny on his tractor, aka Aprilia RSV 1000 .The two riders finished 8th in the 600 class with Shiny finish-ing off the season riding Shelley’s rebuilt bike. The team won the best pre-pared team trophy 3 years run-ning.The RAF Careers were so im-pressed with the PR work that they agreed to sponser the team for 2009!

Gary’s introduction to the motor cycle racing world was when he was five years old and met Barry Sheene at British Grand Prix Silverstone; ever since then he has alalways wanted to race. His racing career began when he was 14 racing in school boy moto cross and in 1994, as soon as he reached the minimum age to road race (which then was 16) he 16) he raced in the Super Teens on an RGV 250. Half way through the season he changed to a Kawasaki 400 which had previously been owned and raced bby Simon Le Bon, lead singer with Duran Duran. He had his first race win that year in a club race at Cadwell Park. The following year he was runner up in both the Formula 400 Cham-pionship new Era, and the Dennis Oldham Trophy.

His racing career pro-gressed and he won his first Championship the next year (1996) in the National Shell 600 Series.Highlights until his forced retirement include:French Endurance Champi-onship with Team Muscadet 1997Winner 500 Mile Endurance Race with Team Phoenix 1998Winner of the Shell Sport trophy 1999Champion Suzuki 1200 Bandit Series 2000Shortly after this he had to retire to look after Lewis. ((See Just Giving web site for further information re the illness, treatment etc.)GGary was indebted to Great Ormond Street and the Bone Marrow Programme and friends suggested Gary could go back racing to raise money and awareness of the need for more people to to register as donors. He returned part way through the season in 2008 racing a KTM and in 2010 he is racing a full season in the one-make Harley-Davidson Series.

Here is Sue from Weston Super Mare with her lovely Honda CBR 600 F.

Sue has alSue has always been in-terested in bikes from an early age, at the age of 14 was always mess-ing around on bikes off road and after having boyfriends with bikes and being a pillion she missed the feeling of freedom and speed of being on a bike so when her 40th birth-day came around she decided to do some-thing different,so she applied to do her bike test on a course called Fastrax

They supplied her with a GS 500 cc and she passed her test doing the CBT and the full Fastrax course. AAfter passing her test she bought a Honda CBR 600 cc , which unfortunately was stolen.LLuckily for her she then got a bargain buying her pres-ent bike a lovely yellow CBR 600 F only costing 2400 pounds with her pri-vate number plate from the previous bike.Sue says she loves her bike! When life deals a kick in the head ,she just gets on her bike and escapes , with a feeling of freedom excite-ment and of course speed. There are many lady riders, so come on girls get in touch with me and help me promote more lady bikers.

Continuing my series on lady riders...............
