On the weekend of January 25, 2015 our diocese will take up acollection to assist our Church in Latin America and Central Europe.
Families around the world today face tremendous challenges. In LatinAmerica many family and catechetical ministry projects funded by theCollection for the Church in Latin America offer families andcommunities a way to strengthen, affirm, and celebrate their lifetogether in faith. In Cuba, migration and economic pressures are onlya few of the many internal and external circumstances that posethreats to Catholic families. A grant requested by the Archdiocese ofHavana is addressing these challenges by forming family pastoralministers who are helping nourish families, so they can live anauthentic, integrated experience of faith at home and in the widercommunity.
In Central Europe this Collection funds grants that provide pastoralcare, affordable shelter, and a cultural and spiritual education forsuffering people who live in areas formerly under Soviet control. The
bishops and people of these regions face the enormous task ofrestoring church structures while rebuilding the life of the community.
The New Home Centre, run by the Franciscan Sisters of the SacredHeart benefits from your generous donations. The Centre provides ahome for abandoned children. The repair and expansion project willprovide living quarters for children and a separate kindergarten,ensuring that the children live in a safe and welcoming environment.
I thank you for your generosity in assisting the Church in LatinAmerica and Central Europe and I assure you of my prayers that Godwill continue to bless you and your families.

Hoy da en todo el mundo las familias enfrentan grandes desafos. EnAmrica Latina muchos proyectos para la pastoral familiar y lcatequesis estn financiados con fondos de la Colecta para la Iglesiaen Amrica Latina y ofrecen a las familias y comunidades un modo dfortalecer, afirmar, y celebrar su vida juntos en la fe. En Cuba, lapresiones migratorias y econmicas son solamente unas de lasmuchas circumstancias internas y externas que amenazan a lasfamilias catlicas. La arquidicesis de La Habana est solicitando unsubsidio para responder a esos desafos formando lderes de Pastoralfamiliar que puedan evangelizar a las familias, de modo que puedanvivir una experiencia de fe autntica, integrada en el hogar y en lacomunidad en su conjunto.
En Europa Central los fondos de esta colecta proveen cuidadopastoral, albergues econmicos, y educacin cultural y espiritual paragente necesitada que vive en reas que estuvieron antes bajo elcontrol de la Unin Sovitica. Los obispos y la gente de estas regionesenfrentan un enorme trabajo de restauracin de templos y a la vez dereconstruccin de la comunidad de fe.
El Centro Nuevo Hogar, administrado por las Hermanas Franciscanadel Sagrado Corazn se beneficia de sus generosas donaciones. ElCentro provee un hogar para nios abandonados.
