2. Prayer is Covenant I believe that everyone has the experience of praying. Before praying, first of all, God asks people to pray according to his own gifts to people, just as we saw last week where Jesus called the Samaritan woman at the well to come before him. Then we give our praises, gratitude and prayers. Furthermore, God bestows all kinds of graces upon us according to his will. Afterwards, we practice our faith and live out his grace in our life according to God’s grace. These experiences also remind us of Abraham’s prayers. Once he heard God’s call, he went “as the LORD directed him” (Genesis 12:4). His heart completely succumbs to God’s holy words and obeys his commands. The essence of prayer is to obey God’s commands out of listening from the depth of heart. Abraham’s prayer is first of all expressed in action: He was taciturn. He built an altar for God in every stage of his journey. When he walked in front of God, he made a covenant with Him. In his life, he kept his heart close to God. He made preparations to treat the mysterious guest in his tent. In his heart and in his action, he made preparations for the appearance of angels and the announcement of God’s incarnation to man in the future. After that, God entrusted his plan to Abraham and Abraham strived to help others, to pray for sinners and to walk in life full of faith for God’s plan. He grew and he was purified continuously in his meetings with God and his faith was continuously nourished and strengthened and finally he shared God’s love in his own life and among his own people. Therefore, we say prayer is the moment when God and people meet. At the moment of prayer, we must enter our own heart first and find God’s presence there. The Bible also kept telling us: “[he] did not need anyone to testify about human nature. He himself understood it well” (John 2:25). God also says through the Prophet Jeremiah: “I, the LORD, explore the mind and test the heart” (Jeremiah 17:10). “God meets people…is with the people and converses with people” (Dei Verbum on Divine Revelation). “When God’s holy works come to our hearts we will be filled with joy” (from Pope Francis’ homily on October 3). Let us return to the depth of our heart, find God there, converse with Him and practice the graces we receive. In this way, through praying, our good God will be with us every day. This also proves God’s angels’ announcement “Immanuel”: God be with us (Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1:23).

If Boston Public Schools are closed or delayed due to inclement weather on a week day when Mass is scheduled, that Mass will be cancelled. Sunday Masses will remain as scheduled. Our priority is the safety of our parishioners. Prudent judgment should always be used. No event, including Mass, requires your attendance if you feel that weather conditions are dangerous. Do not place yourself at risk nor others who legitimately may need to be on the road. The obligation to attend Mass is relieved if you cannot attend due to bad weather.
• Restrooms: Archdiocese child safety protection rules require that any young children using the restrooms must be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult at all times.
• Elevator Service: If you need elevator service to get to the Upper Church for 10AM Mass, please come to the church hall at 9:45AM to be escorted. After Mass, please wait in the back of the Upper Church and a helper will escort you down.
