Partnership for Patients Awards Contract to LifePoint Hospitals and Duke Karen Frush, Mimi Huizinga, Bryan Sexton and Katherine Grichnik on behalf of LifePoint Hospitals and Duke were awarded a 2.3 million dollar Department of Health and Human Health Hospital Engagement contract to augment the quality of care across the LifePoint Hospital system. This award is a part of the Partnership for Patients Initiative that brings together leaders of major hospitals, employers, physicians, nurses, and patient advocates along with state and federal governments in a shared effort to make hospital care safer, more reliable, and less costly. As a part of this initiative, Hospital Engagement Networks are funded by the CMS Innovation Center, established by the Affordable Care Act. “The goal of the Partnership for Patients program is for the nation’s finest health systems share their knowledge and resources to make sure every hospital knows how to provide all of its patients with the highest quality care,” said HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius. As the subcontractor, Duke will work with LifePoint to improve organizational performance and develop a culture of safety company- wide through team based training and education. Dr. Wray received his PhD in Biology from Duke University in 1987, and was Assistant Professor of Ecology and Evolution at the State University of New York at Stony Brook from 1993-1999. He was the recipient of a Young Investigator Award in Molecular Evolution from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation for his work on the evolutionary genetics of animal development. He returned to Duke in 1999, and is Professor of Biology.
