Happy New Year! May 2017 be filled with more love, peace, and joy that comes from God!! I want to thank all the parishioners who gave me Christmas cards and gifts! You are all too kind!! My great gift is being pastor of this parish and the wonderful people who make it what it is. May God bless you in this New Year! In what will hopefully become a reoccurring activity, I’ll be leading a “carpool pilgrimage” to St. George Orthodox Church here in Flint Township on Tuesday, 10 January. We can leave after the 8:15 Mass is complete, or you can meet us there, and the tour begins at 9:30 a.m., and will be led by Fr. Joe Abud, the priest at that Church. Fr. Joe and I have become friends since I moved here, and he was happy to host a tour of his church, as well as talk about some of the differences between Orthodox Christians and Catholic Christians. If there is interest, we can all grab a bite to eat afterwards. Obviously, this tour is geared toward those who are not working, especially our seniors. I look forward to spending time with whoever can come. Today we celebrate Mary, the Mother of God. This day also recalls the day that Jesus, as an observant Jew, was circumcised. We recall that Jesus took His human nature from the Blessed Virgin Mary, and that He was obedient to the Law and His parents, even though He is the Divine Lawgiver and the one who created Mary and Joseph. We ask Mary in a special way to help us to say yes to God in every aspect of our lives, and to walk with us, as our loving mother, through 2017.

Happy New Year

Give a gift that lasts forever

This is a wonderful time of year where we celebrate the birth of Christ and often times get together with friends and family to exchange gifts. I pray that each of you have a Happy New Year! So often I think that we try to purchase gifts for our kids that end up not being played with the following year. One of the greatest gifts my wife and I have given our children is the gift of a Catholic education. It is a tremendous sacrifice for us to do this but year after year our children continue to use it. Our boys never get tired of it, it never gets broken and they seem to use it almost daily. Maybe you and your family have been thinking about getting your children a Catholic education starting next year and think you can’t afford it. Nothing could be further from the truth! Please take some time to pray on this and give me a call at (810) 235-8572 and we can work together to make this gift a reality! Happy New Year Everyone! May God bless you all! Jesus: A Pilgrimage

Chapter 18: Bethany 1. In the Gospel of John, Lazarus is called not “Lazarus of Bethany,” Lazarus, brother of Mary and Martha,” or even “Lazarus, your friend,” but hon phileis, “he whom you love.” What does this tell you about Jesus? 2. When Mary and Martha say, “Lord if you had been here, my brother would not have died,” are they

scolding him, expressing disappointment, or professing their faith? 3. What parts of yourself might you want to leave behind in the “tomb”? How is Jesus calling you to new life? Reference: Questions from Online source-catholic.com
