Principal’s Report

What an incredible pace we have set over the first semester of the school year. As l reflect, a lot has happened and as a collective we have responded so well to an array of challenges. In amongst all of the challenges of Learning from Home and the return to face-to-face teaching student wellbeing and learning has remained the constant focus. As we close out the term l will say thank you to our wonderful school community, the amazing staff at our lovely school who have all done an amazing job throughout this period. I am so proud of our wonderful school.

Monday 20 July 2020 (Day 1 of Term 3) is a pupil free day in NSW Government Schools (unless approval has been granted to change). All Staff at Boree Creek Public School will be involved in professional learning activities which will focus on teaching reading effectively. The first day for students will be Tuesday 21 July 2020.

Finally, I would like to wish our school community a restful two week break, spending time with family and friends. I trust you all have a wonderful time and I am looking forward to hearing a story or two when students return to school next term.

Have a fantastic week.

Jeremy Campbell Principal

NADOC Week 2020

NAIDOC Week is normally held in July every year. It is a time to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture and achievements and is an opportunity to recognise the contributions that Indigenous Australians make to our country and our society. Last week the new dates for this year were announced, which are 8 November to 15 November, which is Week 5 Term 4. Boree Creek PS will hold our NAIDOC Week celebrations then, as we hope that more community will be able to participate in Term 4, as restrictions may be lifted. We encourage all Australians to participate in the celebrations and activities that take place across the nation during NAIDOC Week and look forward to including you in our school celebrations later in the year.

Student Attendance

Attendance is one area of focus this year, with a recent highlight being the increasing number of students arriving late to school. Arriving at school and class on time is very important and helps: Ensure that students do not miss out on important

learning activities scheduled early in the day. Students learn the importance of punctuality and

routine. Students to have time to socialise and interact with

their peers. Reduce classroom disruption.

Please be aware that lateness is recorded as a partial absence, which needs to be explained by parents. Your assistance with this matter is greatly appreciated. School Holiday Road Safety

With the school holidays approaching, daily routines will soon change. Different play locations and holiday destinations means different traffic environments. So, to help keep our children safe, families are reminded about these key road safety points:

Stop, look, listen, think every time you cross the road. If your child is aged 8 years or younger hold their hand when walking near or across roads. If your child is 9-10 years old always actively supervise them.

It’s the law that everyone wears a helmet when riding a bike in a public place. It makes sense to wear a helmet when riding scooters and skateboards too!

Click clack front ‘n back every person for every trip. Everyone in the car must be securely buckled up in the right seatbelt or child restraint.

Talk to your child about being a safe road user. Reinforce safe road behaviours by being a good role model! Children learn safe road behaviours from the adults who care for them. Talk about what you are doing to be safe when near roads, in the car and when riding.

Point out road safety differences and dangers in new environments. This is especially important when on holidays in different surroundings. Roads,

footpaths, parks, carparks, bike tracks and bike lanes may look different in holiday areas. The best way to keep your child safe is to actively supervise them. Talk and teach your child about road safety every time you are out and about. Remind other adults who care for your children to do this too.

Kinder 2021 Enrolment

Enrolment for students who are eligible to attend school in 2021 are now being taken. Eligible students are those who turn 5 before July 31, 2021. If you have a child or you know of anyone who has a child who is able to attend school in 2021, please ask them to come and enrol. Applications for enrolments are now being taken at the school office. Please present your child’s Immunisation record, Birth Certificate and evidence of your residential address at the time of application. Dates and information regarding our transition program will be released soon.

Removing Head Lice and Nits

Mention head lice and most of us instantly develop an itch. While head lice and nits, (the eggs of head lice) are certainly annoying and persistent, they're not dangerous. Here's everything you need to know to rid your kids of head lice and nits. Find out more:

Semester 1 Parent Teacher Interviews

Semester 1 reports will be coming home this week. These reports will look considerably different from last year’s report, due to the reduced amount of face-to-face

teaching and the Learning from Home program as a result of COVID-19. An important aspect of Semester 1 reports is the parent teacher interview component. As a teaching staff we feel these are best delivered face to face and for this reason have been holding off organising interviews until early next term. In the first newsletter next term there will be information regarding booking a parent teacher interview. Can I encourage all parents to read their son or daughters report and make it a priority to book a time to chat with your son or daughter’s teacher? Ensuring we have strong partnership between school and home is embedded in the fibre of a high achieving school, something we want to be known for.

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data - NCCD

Boree Creek Public School and all schools across Australia will be involved in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on school students with disabilities. The NCCD is an annual collection that counts the number of school students with a disability and the level of reasonable educational adjustment they are provided with. The national data collection will count students who have been identified as receiving an adjustment to address a disability under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (DDA).

All schools across Australia collect information about students with a disability. The information provided through the national data collection will enable all Australian governments to better target support and resources to benefit students with disability. For the purpose of the national data collection, students who receive personalised learning intervention, as well as those with learning difficulties, speech, vision and hearing difficulties, as well as chronic health conditions like epilepsy, diabetes, asthma, that require active monitoring by the school may be included.

Protecting the privacy and confidentiality of all students and their families is essential. Personal details such as student names or other identifying information will not be provided to local or federal education authorities.

If you have any concerns or you do not wish for your child to be included in this data can you please contact Mr Jeremy Campbell.
