Anti Terrorism Day at DLW
On the lieu of the sacrifice day of Ex. PM Late Rajiv Gandhi, Anti Terrorism Day was
observed on 21st May at Reception Hall, DLW. On this occasion, Shri Ashok Kumar Singh, Chief
Mechanical Engineer administered the anti terrorism pledge to the HODs, officers and employees to
fight against terrorism and other destructive activities.
Manish Kumar Gupta, DGM as well as other officers, Staff Council members, office bearers of
DLWSA and viewers were present in a large number. Padmshri Md. Sahid, Sr. Sports Officer
welcomed the guest & sportsmen and Shri Alok Pandey conducted the whole programme
efficiently.

Annual Function of “Chetna”
“Chetna”, a school for ‘Divyang’ children run by DLW Women’s Welfare Organisationcelebrated its 20th Annual Function “Muskan” on 21st April at DLW Officers’ Club. On this occasion,school’s children presented a brief colourful cultural programme. Blessing the children on thisoccasion, chief guest Shri Ashok Kumar Harit, General Manager said “Chetna” is indulging inmaking the ‘Divyang’ children self-dependent by educatingand imparting them vocational training. He further addedthat by getting such training ‘Divyang’ children can easily jointhe main stream of the society. Shri Harit said that thesechildren need not only sympathy, but also love, affection andpositive support from parents and society. Congratulating theDLW Women’s Welfare Organisation, Shri Harit said thatcertainly the organisation is doing commendable work tomake such extraordinary children self reliant andindependent.
Earlier, a colourful cultural programme was also presented by the children includingchanting of Bhajans, Songs, Solo Dance (Pari), Group Dance, Mime (Chor-Sipahi), Short Play(Beauty Parlour) etc., which were highly appreciated by the viewers with the thumping noise. The
programme concluded with the distribution of prizes by ShriHarit to the students for their participation in sports andextra curricular activities, while Smt. Sumitra Harit,Chairperson, DLW Women’s Welfare Organisation distributedthe dividend among the children, earned from the selling ofhand made things made by them. On this occasion, Shri Haritalso declared a cash award of ` 15000/- for Chetna School.During the function, the handmade things as fabric purse,coarse paper envelopes etc. made by the children of Chetnawere also displayed at the Officers’ Club.
Earlier, welcoming the guests Smt. Tulika Srivastava,Incharge, Chetna School focused upon the background andactivities of school and conducted the programme. On thisoccasion, office bearers and members of DLW Women’sWelfare Organisation along with COS Shri V.P.Pathak,CMM/Eng. Shri V.R.Mishra, CMM/HQ Shri M.K.Agarwal,CME/M Shri P.Ananth, CE Shri R.B.Yadav, CMODr.R.C.Trivedi, DGM Shri Manish Kumar Gupta as well asother officers, teachers, guardians and children were presentin a large number.
During the function, Smt. Rakhi, Principal presented the annual report of Chetna School andSmt. Krishna Dubey compere the cultural programme and at the end Smt. Usha, Instructor,Chetna proposed the Vote of thanks.
DLW bagged Best Production Unit shield and a DLW employee received MR award
Diesel Locomotive Works, Varanasi bagged the Best Production Unit award of Indian
Railways for the year 2015-16. On the occasion of 61st Central Railway Week Function held at
Convention Centre Auditorium, KIIT University,
Bhubaneswar, Orissa on 16th April, 2016, Hon’ble
Minister of Railways Shri Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu gave
this prestigious shield to DLW. General Manager Shri
Ashok Kumar Harit along with CME Shri A.K.Singh and
COS Shri V.P.Pathak received the Best Production Unit
Shied from Hon’ble Minister of Railways Shri Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu
and Hon’ble Mister of State for Railways Shri Manoj Sinha.
Besides, on this occasion a DLW employee Shri Rakesh Kumar
Upadhyay, SSE was also awarded by Hon’ble Minister of Railways Shri
Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu for his commendable services during the
year 2015-16.
Member NITI Aayog and Advisory Group of Experts visited DLW
A high-level delegation of Advisory Group of
Experts comprising of Dr. V.K.Saraswat, Member NITI
Aayog & Chairman, Advisory Group of Experts as well as
officials of Advisory Group of Experts on “Upgradation of
R.R.Prasad, CMO Dr. R.C.Trivedi, CE Shri R.B. Yadav, CPRO Shri Manish Kumar Gupta as well as
other officers and employees were present in a large number.
Railway Week Award Distribution Ceremony at DLW
61st Railway Week Award Distribution Ceremony was organised on 12th April at DLWAuditorium (Cinema Hall). On this occasion Shri Ashok Kumar Harit, General Manager gave awayawards to 87 meritorious officers, supervisors and employees for their commendable performancesin their respective fields during the year 2015-16. Shri Harit also gave away 08 running trophies toStores and Mechanical Departments. In Mechanical Department the Best House Keeping award wasgiven to Turbo Assembly Shop followed by Best Safety Performance award to Progress Loco, BestPerformance award to Heavy Weld Shop and Best Service Shop award to MA-1. While in Stores
Department, UP-6 bagged the Best Purchase Section award, followed by Second Best PurchaseSection award to UP-8, as well as in Depot, Ward No.- L-57 and Ward No.- TOT-37 secured thefirst and second Best Ward awards respectively.
On this occasion, Felicitating the awarded employees, supervisors and officers, Shri Haritsaid that during the financial year 2015-16 DLW manufactured 330 locomotives, which is therecord production and 24% more than the previous year production of 266 locomotives. Includingthese 330 locomotives, DLW manufactured 317 High Horse Power locomotives, which is also 27%more than previous year production of 249 HHPlocomotives. Focusing upon the achievements of DLW inmarketing field, Shri Harit said that during this financialyear, DLW has received the supply order of 28 locomotivesfrom Non-Railway Customers, including 18 locomotives forMyanmar Railways. Shri Harit also congratulated the DLWofficers and employees for getting the prestigious “BestProduction Unit Shield” from Railways Board as well as ShriRakesh Kumar Upadhyay, SSE for receiving the RailwayMinister Award.
Earlier, welcoming the guests, Chief Public Relations Officer Shri Manish Kumar Gupta,focused upon the background history of Railway Week celebration and said that Indian Railwayshad started its spectacular journey on 16th April, 1853 from Mumbai to Thane covering a distanceof 34 kilometers. To commemorate that glorious moment, Railway Week is celebrated in IndianRailways every year from 10th to 16th April. Today Indian Railways has completed 163 years of itshistoric journey and it is still continued without any pause. Congratulating the DLW employees, hesaid that the Indian Railways is the lifeline of our country and DLW built locomotives arecontributing significantly in functioning smoothly this lifeline.
Earlier, the function started with the lighting of lamp by Shri Harit, GM along with ShriA.K.Singh, CME and other HODs jointly. On this occasion, a colourful cultural programme of DeviStuti (Kathak) and Rajasthani Folk Dance was also presented by the artists of DLW CulturalAssociation. The programme was highly appreciated by the viewers. Important among those whowere present on this occasion were Shri V.P.Pathak, COS, Shri J.N.Pandey, FA&CAO and otherHODs, Smt. Sumitra Harit, Chairperson and members of DLW Women's Welfare Organisation,officers, staff council members as well as employees, their family members and friends in a largenumber.
Joint demonstration of rescue and relief work by the members of DLW and ECoR CivilDefence Organizations
Diesel Locomotive Works and East Coast Railway Waltair Division Civil Defence
Organisations jointly demonstrated rescue and relief exercises at Western Township Sabji Mandi
(Jalalipatti) on 07th April, as their readiness for any emergency situation. On this occasion,
encouraging the members, chief guest Shri Manish Kumar
Gupta, Deputy General Manager and Controller, DLW Civil
Defence Organisation said that our aim is to protect the life
and property of the people in emergency situation. In this
connection, such type of exercises to be performed in
different circumstances and at different places by the Civil
Defence organization. So that, the rescue works could be
done successfully in any situation.
On this occasion, the Civil Defence members presented a live and effective demonstration of
various relief & rescue works as well as first aid exercises during the bombardment in war time,
defusing of bombs, fire fighting. Besides, they also shown, how to bring down the injured persons
from considerable heights by only stretcher and rope,
providing first aid to the injured persons, and to transfer
the injured persons from the accident site to safe place as
well as stretcher drill, fireman lift, human crutch and many
other rescue methods successfully.
At the end of the programme Shri B.L.Nag, Deputy
Controller, DLW Civil Defence Organisation proposed the
vote of thanks and Shri Asht Bhuja Mishra, Senior Civil Defence Inspector conducted the
programme.
DLW manufactured WDG4D locomotive with toilet facility
Hon’ble Minister of Railways Shri Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu had assured this year in Rail
Budget speech to provide toilet facility to the Loco Pilots in cab. In this connection, to expand
facilities for the crew members, DLW has succeeded in
making locomotive with toilet facility. Shri Ashok Kumar
Harit, General Manager flagged-off this First Toilet equipped
Diesel Locomotive for Delhi on 06th April, 2016. This
locomotive will be pressed into regular service after
inspection by senior Railway Officers in Delhi.
This 4500 HHP locomotive no 70486 is the first HHP dual cab freight locomotive provided
with vacuum type toilet module and bacteriological based waste treatment system (bio-digester)
onboard. The toilet cabin provided on this locomotive has a western type commode, wash basin
etc. A fresh water tank of 300 litres capacity has been provided for toilet use. The flush operation
of this toilet module is vacuum based and uses only 250 ml of water per flush as compared to 10
litres per flush in conventional design toilets. Besides, due to provision of bio-digester in this toilet,
the untreated human waste would not be discharged on the rail track.
Keeping in view the safety of passengers, it has been taken care
that while the locomotive is on run, the toilet door will not open. Toilet
cabin door will open only when the locomotive is stationary and the
brakes have been applied. In case toilet cabin is occupied, audio visual
alert will also appear on the LCD display screens on the Control desk. Two
motor driven oil-free compressors have also been used on this
locomotive. These air compressors are eco-friendly and have better
energy efficiency than the existing air compressors.
On this occasion, S/Shri Ashok Kumar Singh, CME, V.P.Pathak, COS, Yogesh Asthana, CEE,
Srivastava, Dr. Sangeeta Srivastava, Smt. Ranjana Ray, Dr.
Sunita Tiwari and Smt. Rachna Sharma poetesses recited their
poetries based on women’s plight in society and the need of their
empowerment.
Thereafter, an eye caching welcome dance was presented under the direction of Ms. Puja
Chaudhari, which kept the viewers spellbound. The main
attraction of the programme was a staging of an emotional play
Ganga Ho Ya Gangai presented by the artists of Prerana Kala
Manch, Varanasi under the direction by Shri Motilal Gupta. In this
play, the artists depicted the pollution in Ganga and plight of
women in society.
Earlier, the programme started with the lighting of the
lamp by guest of honour Shri Ashok Kumar Singh, Chief
Mechanical Engineer and Shri Arjun Tabiya, Chief Personnel
Officer & President, DLW Employee’s Welfare Fund Committee
jointly. On this occasion, Shri V.P. Pathak, COS, Shri S.K.Sagar,
CQAM as well as other HODs, officers, Staff Council members,
employees and viewers were present in a large number. Shri Janardan Singh, Dy.CPO & Secy.,
DLW Employee’s Welfare Fund Committee proposed the vote of thanks and Shri M.P. Thakur
conducted the whole programme efficiently.
Indian Railways National Welding Seminar (IRNWS-2016) at DLW
Under the aegis of Indian Railway Welding Research Institute, Diesel Locomotive Works, atwo day Indian Railways National Welding Seminar (IRNWS-2016) was organized on 04th and 05th
March at Technical Training Centre auditorium. On 04th March, inaugurating the seminar, chiefguest Shri Ashok Kumar Harit, General Manager said that thisseminar is a good opportunity for DLW, Indian Railways andother industrial organisations to share the latest informationwith each other in the field of welding technology. Throughthis seminar not only the updates regarding the progress ofwelding technology will be received, but also the way of futuretechnological development will be paved.
Speaking on this occasion, guest of honour Prof. Rakesh Narayan Pandey, HOD, MechanicalEngineering, Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology, Allahabad and Prof.A.K.Agarwal, HOD,Mechanical Engineering, Banaras Hindu University shared the useful information to sort out newchallenges coming in the field of welding technology and also emphasised on improving the qualityof welding.
In this seminar, Shri Ashok Kumar Singh, CME said thatas psychology is an important part of human life, in the sameway the progress of welding technology is essential for thedevelopment of engineering. Welcoming the guests andspeakers, Shri Vivek Acharya, Principal, Technical TrainingCentre threw light on the role of Technical Training Centre andIndian Railway Welding Research Institute in Indian Railways aswell as apprised about the agenda of the seminar.
On this occasion, chief guest Shri Harit along with guests of honour released a souvenir“Proceeding of the Seminar”. Earlier, the programme started with the lighting of lamp by the chiefguest and guests of honour and Saraswati Vandana by the trainees of TTC. In the seminar, HODs,officers of DLW and delegates from zonal railways, institutionsand industrial organizations were present in a large number.Dr. Bipin Kumar Srivastava, Assistant MechanicalEngineer/Training conducted the whole programme efficientlyand also proposed the vote of thanks. During the seminar,safety and welding equipments were also displayed by theindustries.
During the two day seminar, experts of welding technology from IIW, Kolkata, IIT, BHU,IIT, Kharagpur, MNNIT, Allahabad, IIT, Delhi, KIT, Varanasi, M/s ESAB, Channai, M/s 3M, Gurgaon,M/s Lincoln, Mumbai, M/s ESAB, Kolkata, M/s ITW, Kolkata, M/s ADOR Welding, Pune etc. deliveredlecture and put up their presentations on new welding techniques, quality of welding as well assafety and health of welders.
Flower and Vegetable Show at DLW
35th flower and vegetable show was organised on 01st & 02nd March, 2016 at DLW Inter
College Sports Ground. It was inaugurated by chief guest Shri Ashok Kumar Harit, General
Manager on 01st March. This two day flower and vegetable show concluded on 2nd March with the
prize distribution by General Manager Shri Harit to the winners and runners of the show. On
account of maximum points, host DLW was declared overall champion, followed by Central
University for Tibetan Studies, Sarnath.
2976 varieties of plants flowers and vegetables
were displayed by 153 participants in the show. As many
as 19 Running Challenge Trophies were given in this
show for different items. Out of which three were bagged
by DLW and two each District Horticultural Officer,
Varanasi and Banaras Hindu University, followed by
Central University for Tibetan Studies/Sarnath, Northern
Railway, N.E. Railway, BHEL, Hotel Gateway, 39 Gorkha
Training Centre, Forest Department, Shri Bablu Patel/Manduadih, Shri Rajan Singh/Jalalipatti,
Jaihind Nursery, DLW officer Atul Kanaujia and DLW staff Smt. Usha Rani one each. Besides, Rajan
Singh received the shield for decorating best marriage 'mandap'. The Peter Prankan Field variety
rose displayed by Banaras Hindu University was declared as 'King of the Show' while the rose of
Headliner variety displayed by the District Horticultural Officer was adjudged as 'Queen of the
Show'. Earlier, Smt. Sumitra Harit, Chairperson,
DLW Women's Welfare Organisation awarded
the winners of the house decoration and kitchen
garden contest of Type-I to Type-IV quarters at
DLW campus, their names were announced by
Smt. Sangita Sagar, Secy., DLW Women's
Welfare Organisation. Varieties of innovated and
colourful flowers, plants and vegetables including Bouquet, Buttonholes, garlands and piers of table
decoration etc. were displayed in the show, which formed an ambience of fragrance and natural
beauty. The whole ground was looking like a valley of flowers, which drew huge gathering of
nature lovers. During two day show thousands of visitors watched the show. Flower bedecked
marriage 'mandaps' were of the centre of great attraction for the visitors.
