SLOVENIA – Mountains and Lakes: 7 Days Hiking Trip (June 14 – 21, 2018) Day 1: Friday, June 15, 2018: Itinerary: Arrival day. Airport – Guesthouse transfer, check in, short warm up walk(s) - Bled – Iski Vintgar – Bohinj – Savica Waterfall – depending on arrival timings. Total driving time 1-2 hours. Highlights: Bled lake, Bled Castle, Vintgar Gorge, Lake Bohinj, Waterfall Savica. Program: Arrival AM, drive to the guesthouse, check-in the guest house, acclimatization walk or two & leisure time: Iski Vintgar Gorge walk (2 hrs), Waterfall Savica walk (1 hr), Bled lake and Bohinj walks – depending on arrival timings. Bled: The outstanding natural beauty of the lake and surroundings ranks among the most beautiful alpine resorts, renowned for its mild, healing climate and thermal lake water. The beauty of the mountains reflected on the lake, the sun, the serenity and the fresh air guarantee an ideal base for further exploring. Bohinj Lake is enclosed by the Lower Bohinj Mountains, which rise to 2.000 meters, and on the north by the Triglav mountain range with Mount Triglav, Slovenia`s highest mountain (2864 m). Bohinj is one of the most beautiful places in the heart of the Julian Alps and in Triglav National Park. Day 1: Friday, June 15, 2018:

Higlights: Superb views Views over Julian Alps, Karavanke range and Kamniško-Savinjske Alps, over Ljubljana basin, Bohinj lake, and south to the valley of river Soča, Trnovsko forest, Nanos mountain, on a clear day to the Adriatic sea. Walk leads across alpine pastures full of spring flowers and beautiful alpine forests with outstanding botanic richness, water springs and abandoned traditional mountain pastures. We will walk the ridge that was the historical border between the Kingdom of Italy and Kingdom of Yugoslavia (Rapallo border).

Program: Breakfast in the guesthouse, bus transfer, hike, local lunch in the mountain lodge, evening return to guesthouse.Easy marked circular path with two lodges along the way for lunch and refreshments, uphill 3 hrs, downhill 2 hrs. Occasion to sample hearty local cuisine (local sausage, roast meat, cheese štruklji (dumpligs), apple strudel and typical Slovenian mountain food: jota (cabbage soup), beef soup with noodles.

Day 3: Sunday, June 17, 2018

Itinerary: Cable car to 1535m – hike to lodge. Total 7 hrs hike, 600m altitude difference.

Higlights: Cable car journey with amazing views to Bohinj lake. Walk through highland Carst area with beautiful views on Bohinj lake, mountains of Triglav range, visit to the remains of Austrian support line structures from Word War 1 – Isonzo Front; hopefully some wildlife sighting (chamois, steinbock, golden eagle, etc …)

Program:Today we will repack the luggage for 3 days mountain hike, spending 2 nights in the mountain lodge. After breakfast a short drive to cable car (30 min), ascent with cable car (30 min), full day hike (7 hrs), lunch stop with a view over Bohinj lake (packed lunch), late afternoon arrival to lodge, checking in, dinner, chill & rest

Day 4: Monday June 18, 2018:

Itinerary: Full day hike, lunch at lake lodge, 6 hrsOne day pack + water needed.

Higlights: Alpine lake, views to the Adriatic sea (Trieste Gulf), views to Triglav. Remains of WW1, high Carst region (caves, rock formations …), alpine larch forests, alpine pastures with sheep and cattle pasturing, possibly also wild animals sighting.

Program: Breakfast lodgeFull day hike through the Karst highland, lunch break at lake, return to lodge. Weather and fitness permitting, short detour on the ridge for views (30 minutes). Total 8 hrs walk: 300 m ascent, 400m descent to lake, lunch. Return the same way or optional longer way (for the fittest hikers additional 2 to 3 hours).

Day 5: Tuesday June 19, 2018:

Itinerary: Descent from lodge to lakes national park, full day hike (7 hrs), 540m descent

Higlights: 2 of the total 7 lakes, Julian Alps views, high mountain Carst, larch tree woods, abandoned and active mountain pastures-meadows (alps).

Program: Breakfast lodge, descent to lakes (540m total descent), lunch at lodge, descent to the road. Bus transfer to our guesthouse. Total 7 hrs walk.

Day 6: Wednesday, June 20, 2018:

Itinerary: Hike above once main border pass between Slovenia and Austria, remains of Word War 2 concentration camp.

Higlights: Hunting trail connected by artificial tunnels, WW2 monuments, old manganese mine, water springs, representation of ancient plansarija (mountain pastures and traditions), excellent views over almost entire Slovenija – from Bled lake and Julian alps to Nanos and Snežnik mountains to Boč in Styria region.

Program: Breakfast, bus transfer Hike, lunch in lodge (1642 m). Descent and through hunting tunnels back to bus. Option of scaling the peak (2062 m – for the fittest, additional 2 hrs).Transfer back to guesthouse.

Day 7: Thursday, June 21, 2018

Itinerary: Full day hike, 7 - 8 hrs, circular walk, 1020 m altitude

Higlights: Walk along the once super guarded, impenetrable border between East and West (Yugoslavia and Austria), views over Austrian Carinthia region, Carinthia lakes, Julian Alps, walk through alpine forests and meadows, hike on non-marked border paths used by former border guards, spring flora in flowers, hopefully some wildlife sighting (chamois, steinbock, golden eagle, etc…)

Program:Breakfast. Bus transfer, full day walk, up to the ridge across pastures and springs, packed lunch on the ridge, return on alternative route. Evening transfer to Guesthouse

Itinerary: Departure day. Visit to Ljubljana (depending on flights)

Group A: Transfer to Airport, end of tour
