Sub Theme: Benefits Of A Life That Pleases God.Topic: Peace And Joy In The Holy Ghost.Text: Romans 14: 14-20.Aims: i. To grasp the biblical concepts of peace and joy in the Holy Ghost;
ii. To find out the things that makes for joy and peace;
iii. To understand that there can be no true peace and joy in a life that is not yielded to the Holy
Spirit.
Introduction: Peace is a condition or sense of harmony, wellbeing and prosperity (Holman Illustrated Bible Dictionary). It is a state of tranquility, serenity or inner contentment. Joy, on the other hand, is a deep feeling or state of great delight, happiness or contentment. “Peace and joy in the Holy Ghost” is an expression which defines a pleasant, desirable and blissful state of being that is activated, enhanced and sustained in a life inhabited and ruled by the Holy Spirit. In other words, true peace and joy are the hallmark of a life that is pleasing to God. Note that both are fruits of the Holy Spirit.
Study Guide1. a. Explain in your own words the expression “Peace and joy
in the Holy Ghost”. Rom. 14: 17.b. How would you differentiate the peace and joy in the Holy
Ghost from that which the world offers?
2. Who is the Chief Source of these qualities, and what are the conditions for to access and enjoy them? Neh.8:10; John 14:27; Rom. 14: 17; Gal. 5:22; Col. 3:15.
3. In what sense can we describe peace and joy as benefits of a life that pleases God? Matt. 6: 25-33; Rom. 14: 17; Gal. 5: 22, 1 Pet. 1: 8.
4. Why do peace and joy elude many even when they would very much love to enjoy them? Isa. 48:22; Rom.5:1; Phil.4:7.
Conclusion: Peace and joy in the Holy Ghost mean a great deal to every child of God. Any religious inclination which does not guarantee these blessings would be aptly described as fake. It is equally worthy of note that the Holy Spirit is the One who ultimately dispenses and sustains them in the lives of God’s children.
Food For Thought: Life without Christ-the Prince of peace-ultimately ends in crises and in a Christless grave.
Memory Verse: Rom. 14:17.

The Coming Day Of The Lord.
“How terrible it will be for you who long for the day of the LORD! What good will that day do you? For you it will be a day of darkness and not of light.” Amos 5:18.
The coming day of the Lord is a day consisting of night time and day time; the occasion of a major event.
The day of trouble (Zeph. 1:15) when God reveals Himself through judgment and supernatural events. Also a time referring to the return of the Lord Jesus Christ to judge and rule the world.
The Day of the Lord, is a broader intent to however call the attention of believers to God’s dealing with both His spiritual and physical enemies throughout history, especially those who have turned back from
following the Lord, and have not sought the Lord, nor inquired of him. (Zeph. 1:6).
The day of the Lord is viewed as a time of joy and vindication. Believers would be exalted and His enemies be brought low because it is God’s judgment upon the wicked for sin.
The coming day of the Lord, speaks of persons who think they have escaped, only to encounter disaster from the lion to the bear and from the supposed safety of the house to the serpent bite. (Amos 5:18-20).
Dearly beloved, the Lord does not delight in sacrifice as much as He delights in justice and righteousness in courts and market places. Let us strive to maintain a proper
relationship with God and other worshiper and neighbours, hence our sacrifices and good deeds are meaningless.
Isaiah 1:10-17 revealed the list of feast days, sacred assemblies, burnt offerings, peace offerings, and songs, make it clear that all of Israel’s worship is rejected.
Israel’s were zealous in their public worship, but neglected the weightier matters – justice and righteousness.
Therefore, let us make haste to return to the Lord before the day catch-up with us, when God will rebukes, judge or decides our case in the gate.
We need to continually persevere in following Him and do not turn back. Remain zealous and refuse complacency. Seek God faithfully everday, and trusting Him that He behaves justly.
