To describe the burden of influenza • doctors visits, • hospitalizations, • sick leaves, • drug consumption among children in France. To compare it to non influenza acute respiratory infections. Prospective study. Follow-up of a pediatric cohort called EFG Junior, including 469 children 0-14 years old, recruited during 2009 pandemic wave, from 2 nd of December 2009 to 2 nd of April 2010, by 93 sentinel practitioners belonging to GROG Network (Réseau des Groupes Régionaux d’Observation de la Grippe), a sentinel influenza network active in France since 1984. Maximum inclusion rate: 9 per practitioner. Inclusion criteria acute respiratory infection (ARI) among children (< 15 years old) consulting a GROG practitioner who collected a nasopharyngeal swab tested by the French National Reference Center for Influenzae viruses Parental signed consent. Virological methods Medium transport: Virocult®. cell culture, PCR, enzyme ImmunoAssay, hemagglutinin inhibition. Questionnaires filled by GROG sentinel doctor at D0 (swabbing day) and D14-D21 (follow-up visit). Monitoring and data management Centralised monitoring and data management were assumed by Open Rome through a specific IT platform. Definitions Influenza positive patient: child whose specimen is positive for flu viruses. Influenza negative patient: child whose specimen is negative for flu viruses. Severity index low severity: only one medical consult without home visit, neither parental work absenteeism nor school (or nursery) absenteeism ; EFG junior cohort: parts of an economical analysis of the burden of A(H1N1)pdm09 influenza among children Cohen JM 1 , Mosnier A 1 , Daviaud I 1 , Bui TT 1 , Ruestch M 2 , Berche H 3 , Matias G 4 1 Open Rome, 2 General Practitioner, Dessenheim, France, 3 General Practitioner, Compiègne, France, 4 GSK Biologicals, Wawre, Belgium Presenting author : Jean Marie COHEN, MD, Open Rome, 67 rue du Poteau F-75018 Paris, France, EU. +331.565.55.151 Em : [email protected] Objectives Thanks to GROG Network, Sylvie van der Werf, Bruno Lina, Martine Valette, Vincent Enouf, Dominique Rousset.
