INTRODUCTION
Transfer students make up approximately 25 percent of the students entering post-secondary
institutions each year. This report describes the movement of undergraduates among the state's
institutions and systems of post-secondary education. While each institution knows where its
. new ti,ansfer enrollees, came from, it may not know how many of its out-going transfers have
enrolled in other post-secondary institutions. Data collected at the state level can provide
this information which is valuable for institutional enrollment and retention analysis.40
Information presented in this report was obtained from the Coordinating Board's annual
"Enrollment Survey of Transfer Students at the End of the Academic Year." It includes
transfer students admitted to collegiate institutions during the academic year 1980-81.
For vocational schools data are for Fiscal Year 1981. Each institution-reported the
number-of transfer students admitted by school of origin, sex, and level of instruction.
Undergraduate Transfers from Systems to Systems displays transfer activity from one post-
secondary system to another.within the state and from all out-of-state institutions to
Minnesota systems.
Undergraduate 'Cransfers from Systems to Institutions, shows the source, by system and
out-of-state, of transfere\students admitted to each post-secondary institution.
,---Transfer students' destinations, by system, are shown for each Minnesota pOst-secondary
-institution in the Undergraduate Transfers from Institlitions to Systems table.
The last set of tables describes System to System Transfers by Sdx and.Class Level.
Student level was estimated for Normandale Community College and for out-of-state transfers
at the University of Minnesota. Sex of students was estimated for Ttasca Community College
For Willmar Community College, unclassified students appear as juniors.
Data on University of Minnesota enrollment of students who previously attended area vocational-
technical institutes were unavailable.
Data from Hemline University were not available at the time of this, report.
Students who transferred from Minnesota institutions to other states are, not included in this report.
For detailed transfer information on individual institutions, contacAhe Manager of Information

technical institutes. Of the 4,526 intrastate transfers who entered c munity colleges,24 percent had attended the University of Minnesota, 23 percent anothe community college,21 percent a state university and 18 percent an area vocational-techn al institute.
