“IF ONLY SOMEONE HAD BEEN THERE.....”
Last spring, this writer was praying out-side an abor on clinic alongside two teenage girls and a woman carrying a sign with large bold le ers: I Regret My Abor on. A er praying with them awhile, I told the woman how much I admired her for publicly acknowledging that she had an abor on. Her response was one I’ll never forget. When I discovered I was pregnant, my husband and I already had one child and our financial situa on was-
n’t good. We thought we couldn’t afford another child. I remem-ber the day I drove up to the abor on clinic. No one was outside praying. No one was there offering me other choices. No one was there asking me to spare my baby’s life. Then she quietly added: If only someone had been there that day, I wouldn’t have gone into the abor on clinic....and my two daugh-ters here would have had a brother or another sister! I didn’t know what to say. I was overwhelmed by a deep sense of sadness and regret that an opportunity was missed to possibly save the life of her baby and spare the mom years of regret. Her story and hundreds like it are the reason we pray outside abor on clinics. The 40 Days for Life campaign is underway and lasts un l Palm Sun-day. Through our prayers outside the local abor on clinic, we may have opportuni es to possibly save the lives of babies and their mothers. For this massive prayer mobiliza on, many prayer volun-teers are needed from 7am-7pm outside Lakeland Women’s Health Center at 4444 S. Florida Ave. S . C
9:00 -10:00 M F . Since the ride is only 15 minutes, a carpool will leave our church parking lot at 8:45am and return there by 10:15am. That’s just an hour and a half commitment toward one day ending abor on. Those who wish to go at another me or on the weekend can drive themselves. Direc ons were on the yellow insert in last week’s bul-le n, or you can call the Powers at (248) 224-5686 for assistance. Some parishioners are unable to pray at the abor on site, but everyone--young and mature... can pray some-
me...somewhere. Everyone ...young and mature...can fast some me from something: a favorite TV show, food, drink, or a bad habit
This Lent, make a posi ve difference. Pray...pray...pray...fast...fast...fast for an end to abor on.
