THE RECORDS: Saturday marks the seventh week of Ohio Athletic Conference play. Marietta is currently 4-3 overall and 3-3 in the OAC after falling to #11 John Carroll, 23-21, at home last week. Baldwin Wallace beat Wilmington, 72-9, in Berea last week and is 6-1 overall and 5-1 in the OAC.

THE COACHES: Marietta’s Andy Waddle is in his seventh season at the helm of the Pioneer program. He is the 29th head coach in program history. Waddle, a 2003 graduate of Wittenberg University, spent eight seasons as an assistant coach at his alma mater, including the last seven as the defensive coordinator prior to coming to Marietta. The Tigers won four North Coast Athletic Conference championships and made four trips to the NCAA tournament during Waddle’s time at Wittenberg. Waddle was named the OAC Coach of the Year in 2017 after lead-ing the Pioneers’ to their first winning season since 2006. THE TEAMS:Marietta returns 32 letter winners and 11 starters from last season. The Pioneers welcome back 6 starters on offense, 4 on defense and 1 on special teams. Marietta is currently ranked 7th in the OAC in total offense (362.7 ypg), 5th in passing offense (235.4 ypg) and 7th in rushing offense (127.3 ypg). The Pioneers are ranked 7th in total defense (373.3 ypg), 5th in passing defense (217.0 ypg) and 8th in rushing defense (156.3 ypg). All-American running back Tanner Clark is 3rd in the OAC in rushing averaging 112.3 ypg rushing and is tied for 2nd with 9 rushing TDs. Senior quarterback Kyle McSweeney is 4th in the OAC with 226.4 ypg passing and is tied for 3rd with 19 TD passes. Senior wide receiver Andrew Barker is 7th averaging 66.7 ypg receiving and is tied for 3rd with 8 TD receptions. Sophomore linebacker Vic Giovengo ranks 7th in the OAC with 61 total tackles. Freshman quarterback Kegan Armitage is 7th in the OAC with 178.5 ypg passing and is tied for 5th with 12 TD passes. Sophomore running back Jon Murray, Jr. is 6th in the OAC averaging 80.3 ypg rushing and is tied for 6th with 6 rushing TDs. RECORD SETTING: Senior wide receiver Andrew Barker has already broken the school record for career TD receptions. Entering the season, the old mark was 19 shared by Antonio Hutton (1994-97) and Jason Curry (2003-06). Barker broke the record with his 20th career TD reception in Marietta’s Homecoming loss to Heidelberg. He currently has 22 career TDs. With 8 TD catches this season, Barker needs one more to break the school single season record currently held by Hutton (1997) and Curry (2006).

NATIONAL LEADER: Junior defensive back Tay Pryor is ranked 5th in NCAA Division III with 2.1 passes defended per game. Senior quarterback Kyle McSweeney ranks 22nd nationally with 19 TD passes. Senior running back Tanner Clark ranks 19th nationally with 9 rushing TDs and is 23rd averaging 112.3 ypg rushing.

HOLD ON TO THE BALL: Marietta College is ranked 4th in NCAA Division III lead with 1 fumble lost this season. The Pioneers have put the ball on the ground nine times through the first seven games and lost possession for the first time last week against John Carroll.

this year’s team will alternate wearing jersey #38 to honor Joel Wunnenberg, a classmate who passed away unexpectedly in March of 2017. Wunnenberg was a linebacker and running back from Springdale, Pa. He was majoring in Petroleum Engineering at Marietta College. TJ West wore the #38 jersey in the season-opener at Hiram and Tanner Clark rushed for 214 yards and 3 TDs in #38 when the Pioneers beat Muskingum, 31-25. Quarterback Kyle McSweeney passed for a school record 440 yards wearing #38 against Heidelberg at Homecoming and wide receiver Andrew Barker had 3 receptions for 72 yards and a TD in #38 last week against John Carroll. Defensive back James Knox will wear it against Otterbein and wide receiver Ryan VanMeter will in the season finale against Mount Union.
