EXECUTIVE SUMMARY This document contains the first report on dissemination activities of the project DC4Cities, explaining the dissemination activities of the first 12 months.
The consortium has achieved a wide variety of different dissemination activities. A highly visible workshop was organized, several publications were issued, and many internal and external presentations and talks were held to disseminate the project and its current insights. Furthermore, a poster and brochures were created and have been distributed, and a first press release has been issued, leading to several appearances in the news.
The first section of this deliverable includes an overview on different dissemination activities that are aimed at by the DC4Cities project. The second section describes the dissemination actions already done and ongoing dissemination in the first reporting period, classified by types. The third section outlines a general dissemination plan, some specifically planned dissemination actions, and describes a new dissemination reporting template.

I. INTRODUCTION
The project consortium has initiated a community of interest composed by stakeholders through conferences, meetings other standard dissemination channels at overall project level (e.g., website, workshop events and printed and electronic information material).
Dissemination activities are covered through contribution of all DC4Cities partners and collected and controlled by UNI PASSAU, the dissemination leader of the project. In a wide sense, the following targets are considered to be relevant to the project, and according to the current status of the work, they are already faced by the partners, as presented in Section II. The following list shows possible dissemination activities. However, it is not a list to be followed exclusively. It is open to any other kind of activities that may become interesting in the future.

II.5. Social network activities
DC4Cities has already generated some activity on Twitter, where different profiles have created awareness of the project. These tweets were sent by project partners, but also by some media specialized in green topics or companies and people related to green or IT activities. The most commented information on Twitter was the launching of the project through a press release that helped to spread the information.

II.8. Cooperation with other projects

There is a special relation of the DC4cities project with its two preceding projects Fit4Green and All4Green. Fit4Green provided input into DC4Cities in terms of resource usage optimization and energy savings in data centres. DC4Cities is capitalizing on the results of All4Green in terms of adaptive resource consumption in data centres. Green SLAs, for instance, are enablers to get higher flexibility in controlling load and power consumption of data centres.
On top of these cooperation activities, currently contact is established between DC4Cities and 40 different real world smart cities. Based on the study “Mapping Smart Cities in the EU” (Directorate-general for internal policies – policy department A: economic and scientific policy, 2014), we have gathered mail addresses of 40 cities with smartness level of 3 or 4. An email was sent to ask for cooperation in terms of data exchange. The following data has been requested by each smart city:
Number of public data centres in your city (or # of data centres where public data are being processed)
Their maximum power requirement in 2012
Their energy consumption in 2012
Their overall cost (differentiation in fixed and variable not necessary, a rough estimate would be sufficient)
Their energy cost
II.9. Press releases
After the project had started for three months, each of the partners had released a press release in his local language to the local press. The Catalan partners (Gas Natural, IMI and CSUC) worked together to send a common press release both in Catalan and in Spanish, highlighting their participation together.
The following figure illustrates the template for the press release from the perspective of UNI PASSAU in English. This press release template had also been translated to German and been issued to the local press.

III. DISSEMINATION PLANNING
This section shows a general activity plan for the next two project years, discusses some special activities that will be focused on in the future of the project, and illustrates the template that will be used for dissemination planning and reporting in the next two years.
III.1. General activity plan
This activity plan lists some main dissemination activities and shows the focus of the project with respect to these activities.
Figure 10: Dissemination plan
It can be observed in Figure 10 that the project consortium plans to extend efforts on publication, social network activities, educational uses, experimental uses, web presence, and promotional videos during the following two years. Brochures and posters, however, have rather been used to introduce the new project to the community.
III.2. Special activities
This section discusses two special activities that are planned for dissemination within the next two years: promotional videos and social network activities.
III.2.1. Promotional videos
In the two preceding projects FIT4Green and All4Green, three internal promotional videos had been released and are available on YouTube.
The video "Fit4Green Elevator Pitch" (3 min.) is available under the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkPnbrcwLSI
The video "All4Green Airport Pitch" (3 min.) is available under the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJCRR6DMErI

Similar to these three promotional videos, also DC4Cities plans to release an overview on the project in the form of a video.
Additionally, the preceding project All4Green had an external promotional video produced by Euronews that has proven very useful in spreading the awareness of new concepts in energy saving. Currently we are trying to approach Euronews in order to produce a similar video in the context of the DC4cities project. The Euronews video “Euronews innovation - Plug-in savings” (3 min) is available under the link:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bh6cx286SJ8
III.2.1. Social network activities
Future social network activities will focus on Twitter and LinkedIn, because both are a good loudspeaker to reach the professional public. While Twitter may help DC4Cities to spread immediate messages and to increase awareness of the project, LinkedIn social network would provide in deep information and would help to generate debate about several topics.
Once DC4Cities has reached its first results, communication activities on social networks will increase but, until then, it’s planned to inform on the project itself and related activities, as well as to get stakeholders and users to stay tuned to the project through Twitter and LinkedIn.
III.3. Template for dissemination reports
A spreadsheet to be used as a template will help partners to share within the project both their planned and performed communication activities. With this information, internally reported at least once a month, the communication team will be able to plan supporting activities such as website update, social networks campaigns, etc, to increase awareness of all planned and done activities related to DC4Cities.

Figure 11: Dissemination activity reporting
This internal communication template will also allow for every partner to know which activities are due to be done by the others and so to join them as well as reinforce communication activities.

IV. SUMMARY AND OUTLOOK
This deliverable gave an overview on achieved and ongoing dissemination activities and presented a plan for future activities.
The project consortium plans to intensify the efforts on publication, educational uses, experimental uses, and web presence, in the following two years. In addition, a special focus will be set at being active in social networks and in creating internal and external promotional videos for the project.
