My approach begins in the synapsebetween the speaker and the listener

Page 8: ‘ LINKING ’ Communication skills and techniques Have the tools to express yourself and get it done kdarmon@free.fr .

But HOW you say it, and you do have quite a reportoire to

choose from

ADAPT IT TO YOUR STYLE

And, importantly DEVELOP YOUR OWN STYLE.

Language is the tool to communicate to others and project our persona at the same time.

• How do you want to be viewed by others?‘dynamic’ “knowledgeable” “?”

• Can you ‘characterize’ different people?• Based on what? How much of it is the way they respond to you?

Page 11: ‘ LINKING ’ Communication skills and techniques Have the tools to express yourself and get it done kdarmon@free.fr .

WHY: LINKING?

I am talking on the phone to a foreign person.Do I care about my grammar? No, I am concerned that they understand me.So I purposely use “broken English or Franglophone”Same situation but now I’m speaking with London.Do I care about grammar? Are you crazy, must you really ask?OF COURSE I AM!It’s the queen’s language. As a global manager you’ve got to be concerned with

developing relationships: Linking

Page 28: ‘ LINKING ’ Communication skills and techniques Have the tools to express yourself and get it done kdarmon@free.fr .

Communication is not what you say, but, what is heard:

What does this mean?To be heard I have to communicate in a way that the other person can understand, using their references

This means that I need to use language that is tailored to them

• To their way of seeing things; their culture and style
