PUBLIC BENEFIT STATEMENT and ANNUAL REPORT on the activities of the CSODALÁMPA Wish Granting Foundation in the year of 2012 based upon the law 2011. CLXXV. 28.§. Introduction The CSODALÁMPA (Magic Lamp) Foundation has been founded in 2003, and the first ever wish was granted in November of that year. The mission of the Foundation is to grant one wish to any child, aged between 3 and 18, who suffers from a life-threatening disease. We created Csodalámpa with the belief, that a sudden positive experience, such as granting an „impossible” wish, can give strength to win the battle against the illness, and can break up the sometimes yearlong bitter routine of painful treatments for children and their parents alike. Today, after the 2000th fulfilled wish, we can say with a certainty that we were right, as doctors, parents, and children confirm it every day. In 2012 we were honoured for our work with the Superbrands Special Award. We hope that with your continuous support we will be able to give happiness to many-many children in the following years. There is only one thing that would make us happier; if we would be able to close down our Foundation, and „blow out” our magic lamp, as there wouldn’t be any more children with „Csodalámpa” severity diseases around. 1. THE ACTIVITIES OF THE FOUNDATION IN THE YEAR OF 2012
1.1 Target group and achievements of the Foundation
The foundation grants wishes of children aged between 3 and 18, who suffer from a life-threatening illness. The wish, or to be more precise the sick child can be registered by the child, or by his or her guardian, treating doctor, or by one of our volunteers. Every sick child can have one wish, something that is the dearest to his or her heart. Csodalámpa does not offer a „wish-menu”. We always try to find out what the child really wants, and then fulfill that wish with the help of our sponsors and volunteers. The sole mission of Csodalámpa is wish granting: the joy caused by a granted wish has a psychologically rehabilitative effect on the children and their parents. In order for the wish to get registered, the child has to fall into the required age group, and the illness has to be qualified as life-threatening by his or her treating doctor. Further requirement of granting the wish is the permission of the guardian and the treating doctor; this is needed because of the special circumstances of some wish grantings. (For example, fitness to travel, or to be in a crowd of a rock concert or a soccer game, or is the presence of an ambulance or a doctor required, etc.) The scope of the Csodalámpa illnesses is unfortunately very wide, thus there is no so-called formal list of illnesses. We make our decisions about accepting wishes based on the recommendations of our medical experts. So far we have met about 380 different illnesses… According to our knowledge, there are continuously about 5,000 children in Hungary, who are eligible for a wish.

In 2012 Csodalámpa Foundation, in accordance with its mission, granted another 270 wishes of children suffering from life-threatening illnesses. From the creation of the Foundation until the end of 2012 we managed to bring joy into the lives of 1936 children, and with it offer them and their families emotional rehabilitation, and strength to bear the painful treatments. The wish grantings are continuously documented. The reports and photos are available on our website: www.csodalampa.hu
1.2 Types and geographical distribution of granted wishes
Just as in previous years, the year of 2012 was dominated by “object” wishes. On the top of the list were toys (82 wishes), and personal computing devices. All together 80 children received computers (mostly used laptops). 1 The laptops are used not only for fun and games, but for studying and keeping in touch with school, friends and family.

It is worth mentioning that the content of the “Others” category is not ordinary either: it contains for example a dedicated Pink poster, or a jersey signed by Kobe Bryant. We were able to purchase these two items with the help of one of our American supporter. Noteworthy wishes While some of the more interesting wishes were out of country ones, such as visiting Eurodisney, Legoland, or a dolphinarium in Italy, watching Manchester and Real Madrid soccer games in the teams’ home stadiums, or sightseeing in Paris, the majority of wishes were domestically granted ones, like visiting the Zoo, or Vidámpark, going on a vacation, and of course toys, backyard pools, computers. Furthermore, in 2012 we had a chance to grant our first ever skydiving wish. It is worth mentioning the wheelchair-bound Daniel’s visit to the Bugatti factory in France, and Evelyn’s trip to the Bruno Mars concert in London, because these wishes were extremely complicated to organize.
1 The high demand for computers can be explained with the fact that Csodalámpa children spend very
long peried of time in the hospital, often very far from their homes, families, and friends. Depending on their treatments they can spend months in sterile rooms, even more cut off from the outside world.

Stefánia’s wish granting was especially successful; she “only” wanted to meet her idol Joe Satriani, but instead she got to meet the the whole world-famous G3 band. Beside Joe Satriani both Steve Vai and Steve Morse wished her well. 1.2.2 Geographical distribution of granted wishes The 270 granted wishes came from children living in Budapest, and every region of Hungary, just as in previous years. In previous years we granted wishes of foreign children receiving treatments in Hungary; however, in 2012 we fulfilled no such wish.
1.3 Further activities
1.3.1 Book corners, “tale-telling” afternoons With the ongoing support of the Libri Könyvkereskedelmi Kft., we continued to operate our Csodalámpa-Libri Book corners in several Budapest and regional children’s hospitals. Nationwide in 14 hospitals over 11,000 books are available for the little patients. Based on the feedback of the hospital staff, our goal of providing hospitalized children with quality entertainment besides watching TV has been fully accomplished. The book corners are immensely popular equally with children and their parents.

With the support of our patrons Péter Rudolf and Eszter Nagy-Kálózy, their actor colleagues, and the Libri Könyvkereskedelmi Kft., few times a month we organize
Csodalámpa story-telling afternoons in several children’s hospitals in Budapest, Debrecen, Pécs, and Szombathely. During these afternoons actors and volunteers read tales and stories to the children. The positive feedback we receive from children, parents, and actors makes it clear, that these afternoons are great fun for the children, and show them how important they are for us.
1.3.2 Events
In 2012 we were one of the beneficiaries of the charity performance of the József Attila Theater, then thanks to a joint pre-London Olympic Games program of B55 Gallery, the British Council and the Hungarian Olympic Committee we could grant Alex’s wish. The Choir of the Eötvös Alumni held a wonderful fundraising concert in the Fasor Protestant Church. Several wishes were granted from the proceedings. The most outstanding event last year was Walk-the-Wish, the fundraising walk of the American International School of Budapest. It was organized the 7th times with the attendance of over 800 participants, including students and teachers of the AISB, and students of the Nagykovácsi Elementary School, and the Eötvös József high school. Enough money was raised for six wishes, which were chosen and fulfilled by the students of AISB.
On December 9th 2012 a few dozen severely underdressed Santa Clauses ran to raise money for Csodalámpa, while shivering visitors of the Vörösmarty square Christmas Market watched in shock.

1.4 Honours
On December 4th 2012 the staff, the volunteers, and supporters of Csodalámpa much honoured: the foundation was selected by the jury to receive the Superbrands 2012 Special Award. The award was presented at a swank gala dinner, where the organizers even granted Bence’s wish.
Moreover, in 2012 Csodalámpa was awarded the MagyarBrands “for children” special prize, which will be presented to the to the Foundation in the spring of 2013.
1.5 Our volunteers
Based upon the law of 2005. LXXXVIII. about public volunteer activities, our Foundation was registered as a volunteer-receiving organization. At this time the number of our registered volunteers is 144. In addition, a few dozen helpers participate in wish granting on a case-by case basis. Geographically, these groups are organized in the radius of major children's hospitals, under the leadership of our more experienced volunteers. Our volunteers have a varied background; there are medical professionals, teachers, seniors, and even CEOs of big international companies amongst them. These experienced coordinators also play major part in training new volunteers, teaching them how to communicate with the sick children, their parents, and the medical staff.

Our volunteer network

Major roles and responsibilities of our volunteers:
Finding out what the real wish of the sick child is, liaising with the children, their parents, the medical staff, and the local sponsors, and organizing and documenting wish-fulfillments. Several of our volunteers also provide us administrative assistance in our Budapest head office (paperwork, translation of documents, etc.), or occasionally represent the Foundation at local events.
Once a year we organize a national volunteer conference, where experiences and best practices are discussed, and training is held.
Our goal is to improve the stability of our volunteer network, and to increase its nationwide coverage by gradual expansion.
Csodalámpa still operates with one part-time and two full-time employees. However, we would not be able to run our office without the ongoing involvement of several volunteers. Bookkeeping, PR and marketing activities are outsourced.
Changes in the income tax law resulted in a dramatic drop of 30% in our 1% income. (16% general income tax, tax allowances for big families, etc. For years now, about 2500-2700 people donate their 1% to Csodalámpa. This number remained the same.) Our supporters could not compensate for the loss of more than 7 million HUFs, thus the assets of the Foundation, first time since its existence, decreased.
However, owing to its prudent management, the financial situation of the Foundation is stable. The average cost of a wish granting was 240,000 HUF in 2012 (about 10 tHUF more than a year ago. In 2012 the direct costs only of wish granting reached 35,4 Million HUFs, while the total operating cost was 64,9 Million HUFs. The a.m. costs cannot reflect the real “market” value of the wish grantings. Csodalámpa received over 7 Million HUF value as price reductions, services free of charge – this important sum could be considered as the goodwill of the 10 year old Csodalámpa Foundation.
1.7 Media Appearances in 2012
In 2012 Csodalámpa was featured in numerous media, usually in reports about specific wish grantings. Thanks to some social media expert volunteers, we managed to significantly
10
grow our presence on Facebook. By the end of the year our Facebook page www.facebook.com/csodalampa had over 3000 likes. We want to strengthen this trend in the future with our “Faces of the Future” campaign. To commemorate our 10-year-existence, we started a campaign on Facebook in order to collect as many children’s photos as possible from our supporters. One of our supporters, a very talented photographer then uses these photos to create a big mosaic. The mosaic will be donated to a major sponsor of the Foundation at the 10th anniversary celebratory afternoon tea party that we’ll organize for our supporters and sponsors in the spring 2013.
