“Good” ozone is formed in the stratosphere, about 20-50 km above the Earth

Ozone layer protects the Earth from harmful Sun’s UV radiation

Natural process of ozone production in the stratosphere

BUT …Human activities and emission of various gases (nitrogen oxides, CFC etc) into the atmosphere destroy ozone layer

Depletion of ozone layer causes increased intensity of UV radiation

HARMFUL EFFECTS

Ozone layer thickness does not show significant seasonal changes during the years of monitoring (2007 – 2011).

The exceptions are the periods during October 2010 and October-December 2011 when values below 220 DU were recorded. These values correspond to the ozone hole.

We do not have explanation for this appearance, in the moment. Possible explanation is pollution from unknown source, local, but more probable the distant one …

ON THE BASIS OF PRESENTED MONITORING ACTIVITIES:

NO SIGNIFICANT CHANGES IN OZONE LAYER THICKNESS OR SUN’S RADIATION INTENSITY HAVE BEEN RECORDED DURING THE CRITICAL PERIOD OF HIGH UV LEVEL (SUMMER)

EXCEPTION IS THE PERIOD DURING OCTOBER 2010 AND END OF THE YEAR 2011 WHEN UNUSUALLY LOW VALUES OF OZONE LAYER THICKNES WERE RECORDED
