Prepared By: Hilary Palmer, Audrey Richards, Jordan Korte and Cecilia Carrillo
• Safety – Top Concern• Unaccepted Amount of Accidents
• Most Students Commute to WSU• Public Transportation Cuts Provide
Fewer Alternatives• Purpose
• Analyze Current Parking and Transportation Services
• Provide Possible Solutions to Issues Found

The Relentless Parking DangerHot topic among students

46% of total enrolled students can’t park if all are present at the school
In 2005, parking lot accidents accounted for 91% of reported accidents

More Garages
University of Maryland, College Park found that each parking space in a garage costs roughly $9,000 - $12,000 to construct and $500
per space to maintain.
We’re not the only ones considering this!
There’s not a lot of land around WSU to expand on…
Do we really want to sacrifice something for the sake of a garage?
Introducing: A Shuttle Service!
Shuttle #1 Central campus route
stopping at:• Parking Lot #21• Heskett Center• Jabara Hall
• McKnight Art Center• Ahlberg Hall• Wheatshocker
Shuttle #2West/South campus route
stopping at:• Rhatigan Center• West Campus• South Campus
Shuttle #3 Resident route stopping at:
• Rhatigan Center• Fairmount• Brennan Hall• Wheatshocker
Revenue
• The implementation of a five dollar Student Services Fee to be added to students’ tuition would generate $70,000 a year.
• The sale of three dollar bus passes, if purchased by 50% of the student body, would generate another $21,000.
$91,000 a year
Bus Storage
The current WSU Shuttle bus remains in Wheatshocker parking lot when it is not in use.

• Less Distance to Walk• Especially Beneficial to Students with Minor Injury, Light Disabilities, and
During Pregnancy• Drastic Weather Changes
• Provides a Safe Way to Get to Campus During Severe Weather• Time Management
• Less Time Spent Looking for Parking• More Time Available for Coursework
• Increase Student Morale• More Students May Be Able to Attend Sporting Events if Transportation is
Provided• Possible Employment Opportunities
How Will Our Proposal Benefit the Students?
• Shuttle Service Will Be an Asset to WSU• May Help Boost Enrollment
• Possible Future Revenue• Initial Start-up May Be Pricy, but Will Pay For
Itself• New-found Time May Increase Student Retention
• Increased Retention Would Boost Grades and Learning
How Will Our Proposal Benefit the University?
Indiana University
2005-2010 Ridershipby Fiscal Year (Indiana University, 2012)
• Average enrollment of 12,000 students (WSU has an average enrollment of 14,000).
• Employs nearly 50 students.
• Campus shuttle system provides for over 2.3 million boarding each year.
• Staff, faculty and students who commute to work by driving alone use 1.2 gallons of fuel per round-trip compared to .13 gallons for those who use other modes of alternative transportation
University of California, San Francisco

• Currently, Transportation Services has a fleet of 80 buses providing on and off campus services, Para transit and charter services for Texas A&M University.
• The Transit area employs over 250 student drivers, 8 full-time drivers and approximately 20 part-time drivers.
Texas A&M University
Utsa.edu
• Students pay a transportation fee, included in tuition.
• 7 on-campus routes• 12 off-campus routes
• Parking is a Threat to Student Safety• Expansion Would be Difficult
• Alternative Solution Needs to be Adopted• Shuttle Service as a Solution has Many Benefits• Recommendation
• Implement Shuttle Service to Provide a Better Environment Conducive to Learning
