If a required nutrient is taken it at a level lower than needed then a disease may occur

Deficiencies may occur in Proteins, Vitamins or Minerals

Protein Deficiencies

Proteins are body building elements required by the human body. They provide the required energy for the body to function properly and are crucial for the development of muscles. Proteins also facilitate the development of nails, a healthy skin and promote hair growth. Protein deficiency has side effects and can lead to medical conditions.

Kwashiorkor Roughly translates as “The disease the child

gets after the new baby comes”

This means that after the mother stops nursing the baby does not get enough amino acids and cannot make proteins

Marasmus means “decay” children who have it are at least 60% below normal body weight, have prominent ribs, sunken eyes and are unable to digest or absorb food

Vitamin A is a fat soluble vitamin, and therefore, needs to be consumed with fat in order to have optimal absorption. High vitamin A foods include sweet potatoes, carrots, dark leafy greens, winter squashes, lettuce, dried apricots, cantaloupe, bell peppers, fish, liver, and tropical fruits.
