Byproduct Material License Q No. 34-18156-01, License Condition No. 19, we are submitting the results of a radiation survey for areas around and above the irradiator in the shielded and unshielded positions. The gamma radiation survey was performed using a calibrated Reuter-Stokes Instruments Environmental Monitor (pressurized ion chamber) Model Number RSS-111-100. A copy of the instrument calibration certificate is enclosed as Attachment 1. Prior to loading the 30 curie Cobalt-60 source, we reshielded the room in which the irradiator is located to provide approximately four inches of lead with additional concrete support to the walls and a lead filled door. The 30 curie source was loaded by Amersham Corporation who is licensed to perform the service under NRC License No. 20-12836-01. Shortly after loading, the radiation survey was performed before any restart of irradiator operations began. The radiation levels of areas around and above the facility are shown on Diagrams 1-7. All areas above the facility are close to background levels when the source is in both the shielded and unshielded position. The closest unrestricted pathway around the irradiator had readings of less than 0.3 mR/hr when the source is in the unshielded position. I hope this satisfies our license condition.
