The War of Red and White Roses (1455 – 1485)

It was a civil war for the throne of England between Lancaster (red) and York (white rose).

The final victory went to Henry Tudor. He founded the House of Tudor, which ruled England and Wales for 117 years. In 19th century Walter Scott named these wars the “Wars of the Roses”.

“Battle of Trafalgar“ (by J. M. W. Turner)

It was a sea battle between the British Royal Navy and the combined fleets of the French Navy and Spanish Navy to the west of Cape Trafalgar (21 October 1805). The battle was the most decisive British naval victory of the war. Admiral Lord Nelson was one of Britain's greatest war heroes.
