界外文圖書

館，是國內第

一所專門收藏

外文兒童圖書

的圖書館，同

時為兒童、青少年提供英語說故事、

讀書會、閱讀指導、導覽解說、資訊

檢索等服務，同年招募第 1 屆的英語

志工，目前英語志工團隊已發展成擁

有近 2 百名成員的志工團體，在北市

圖各分館為提升小朋友英文素養而默

默付出，提供兒童、青少年英語說故

事、童詩、英語書籍導讀、英語讀書

會以及一般性的導覽解說、資訊檢索

等各項指引與輔導。在團隊幹部和志

工夥伴的努力之下，獲得極大的成效

及各界的肯定。

為提供英語志工團隊的經驗，讓

有志從事志工服務的朋友參考，也為

了擴大服務及影響的層面，另外，更

希望加強英語志工彼此的交流和聯繫，

英語志工團隊網站於 96 年建置完成，

網站內容包括團隊大事紀、圖畫書推

薦、志工招募、活動照片、影音檔案、

網站連結、上傳信箱、資訊下載及英語

志工交流站等九大部分。更難得的是，

英語志工團隊決定推出電子報，電子報

的功能在於取代紙本通訊的功能，即時

報導及傳遞訊息，除了更便捷外，亦節

省印刷經費，且便於留存。本人除對英

語志工團隊的熱心、奉獻表示敬佩及感

謝外，對於其積極運用新穎網路科技推

動志工業務，表示肯定，期望英語志工

電子報除了作為志工們的交流、溝通管

道，提供更快速的服務外，也能宣傳及

報導精采的英語閱讀活動、推薦優良的

英文童書，並接受參與英語閱讀活動的

家長、小朋友或國內志工團隊訂閱，使

其可快速獲得好書訊息及活動消息。另

外，藉著電子報報導溫馨感人的故事，

表揚認真優秀的志工，或認真參與閱讀

活動的小朋友及大人，讓電子報成為英

語志工夥伴及市圖讀者期待收到的刊

新年度，新氣象，英

語志工的新刊物也誕

生了！

臺北市立圖書館的英

語志工團隊成立於 2002

年。我個人在 2003 年加

入這個團隊，經過培訓、

觀摩、實習以及每年都有

的進階課程，更有夥伴們

的互相扶持，一路走來倒

也得心應手。今年承蒙夥

伴們的不棄，有幸榮登隊

長寶座。在接任隊長當

天，推廣課問我是否有辦

期刊的意願，當下覺得這

個提議太棒了；在元月中

旬召開本年度第一次幹部

會議時，所有與會者也都

欣然通過此案。

長久以來，夥伴們大多在

活動時才驚鴻一瞥，而每

回出席的情形也不甚踴

躍；總覺得志工們的互動

與橫向聯繫亟待加強。因

此，今年起，東南西北四

區除區長外，各增設一

位區長代理人，各分館

也設一位分館聯絡人以

利隊務的聯繫與執行，

再輔以刊物的發行，這

些都應有助於夥伴們對

組織及成員們有更多的

認識與瞭解；當然，更重要

的是需要大家的積極與主動

的參與。團隊裡臥虎藏龍，

有無盡的寶藏等待有緣人掘

取！

這份電子報登載於英語志工

部落格，目前訂定為季刊。

這是個屬於所有英語志工的

園地，期待夥伴們投稿，稿

件中英文皆可，亦可附上照

片；希望夥伴們透過這個刊

物分享經驗、共享資源。我

們不探人隱私，但是歡迎你

談談自己，讓夥伴們彼此多

認識；當然，若你有最 in 的

資訊，也可藉以讓大家告訴

大家。

期待你的耕耘，等著你的灌

漑；相信只要大家同心努

力，這塊園地的土壤必定肥

沃，果實一定甜美！

織一張分享愛的網

2007 年是英語志工團隊成立的第 6 年也是忙碌的一年

在全體成員集思廣益無私奉獻的耕耘之下終於開花結果

我們-

訂定了團隊正式英文名稱

建立了團隊組織公約，強化幹部組織章法以促進隊務推展

成立了專屬網頁正式上線，提供完整服務資源共享及同仁們橫向聯繫管道

感謝館員及志工同仁們的支持與愛護，

本團隊在 2007 年交出了一張非常漂亮的成績單。

我們的團隊做到了，而且做的很好。

相信 2008 年會有更好的表現，

衷心祝福所有志工朋友們新年心想事成，事事如意!

樂為市圖英語志工

在市圖說英語故事之前，已在兒童美語補習班說了一年的故事

算算，在市圖說故事已逾四載了，而且愈來愈愛說故事。

尤其喜歡在分館說故事，志工同仁們會互相支援、分享資訊，館員會給我鼓

勵和支持，讓我覺得心中很溫暖。

當幹部是認識更多志工同仁的好方法，認識更多志工相對也得到更多說故事

和延伸活動的資訊和資源，說故事也更輕鬆，同仁變朋友，生活多開了一扇窗，

窗外的世界也更美麗。

95 年到麥當勞說故事，結束後意外得了一套全餐。

96 年到總統府前英語帶動唱，我學了三、四套帶動唱歌舞。

還有每年的「新春聯歡會」有吃的、有喝的、學魔術、學跳舞……當市圖英語志

工真好！

世貿 STORY TIME

哇！好玩的來了！當明嬌隊長於 12 月份的幹部會議

中告知本隊將支援 97 年 2 月的世貿中心國際書展英文故

事展演時，第一個從心中跑出的想法就是身為幹部應以

身作則全力支援，於是當場認了 2 月 16 日中午第一場。

幹部會議後我就立即至小小世界外文圖書館展開事

前準備工作，由於此次展演以澳洲為主題所以澳洲的袋

鼠與無尾熊應是故事的當然的主角，當袋鼠與無尾熊的

書籍找出來後要借出時在小小世界外文圖書館澳洲主題

書展桌上有一本「Dairy of a wombat」。此時有一個念頭

閃過我的腦海！ kangaroo 與 koala 好像太平常了，作為

前菜是可以，但主菜應該特別一點！

嗯！以 wombat 為主菜應該比較酷吧！嗯！好主

意，於是立即登錄了「Dairy of a wombat」，〈在此也

感謝小小世界外文圖書館工作人員的幫忙方能借出澳洲

主題書展用書〉書借到了，接下來就上網找資料，想不

到臺灣的網站竟然找不到“wombat”的資料。臨機一

動！到澳洲網站找，果然是產地原汁原味！更進一步閱

讀，才了解原來“wombat”也有好幾種，仔細閱讀方才

知到“wombat”也是愛吃愛睡跟 koala 一般〈但逃命時

可是速度驚人喔！〉。到了國際書展英文故事展演當天，由

殿英主打前半段，輪到我的時段之際，我

以殿英的「The kangaroo」轉入「Dairy of

a wombat」，秀出 kangaroo 玩偶後再戴

上 wombat 的手繪 Q 版面，一如往常！唱

作兼併，再加上小禮物，當我看到小朋友

目不轉睛，家長嘴角上揚之後，再來一首

童謠！真所謂乘勝追擊！

嗯！眼睛一動，手一揚〈呦！還有人

來錄影！糟糕!唱作兼併之間可能有損形

像喔！〉，一轉眼半小時已到，再來一個

順勢收場進入 ending！謝謝收看〈當然也

要告知親愛的觀眾朋友市立圖書館每週六

日有最精彩的英文故事展演〉，大功告

成！於是 2 月 16 日中午第一場國際書展

英文故事展演到此告一段落，明年再見

囉！

以英語志工為人生的志業

當英語志工的這 3 年，不僅學了許多說故事的專業能力，也結交許多志同道

合的好朋友。大家一起學習、一起成長，這樣的感覺真好。

有時說演英語故事，有時帶領親子讀書會，每次的過程都有很多不同的感

受。曾有位讀書會家長與我分享她的喜悅，她説很喜歡帶孩子來聽故事，因為她

自己也喜歡圖畫書，回家會跟小孩一起閱讀並討論，無形中增進許多親子關係。

我聽了既感動又開心。社會中有著許多平淡冷漠親子關係的家庭，若這樣小小的

付出，能讓書香帶進家庭，促進家庭和諧的氣氛，實是非常有意義的事!

志工是為人生志業而工作，我願意以當英語志工為志業，雖然有時會有些不

如意的狀況，但只要有心並非難事。曾聽有人說：「有心的地方就有愛，有愛的

地方就有美」。我們若是能以善知識、善行為、善心與別人結善緣，人生將會是

何等的喜悅與圓滿。

Sincere Appreciation

I must thank you for giving me this chance to show my appreciation. I’m Wei-

Chung, a new senior clerk in Extension Services Section of Taipei Public Library. I’m

responsible for the Reading Festival about Australia. Because of the activity, I met a lot

of English Volunteers and finally know how the English Volunteers do storytelling. To

be honest, my imagination about the English Volunteers is like some English classes I

have been to, but I found I totally misunderstood your team. During the story time that

was held in the TIBE, I learned a lot and was impressed so much for no matter your en-

ergy or professional English ability. I could feel that your team is trying to teach chil-

dren something positive and something happy in an active way. I approve of that very

much, and I’m sure anyone of our library team may have an optimistic attitude about

this. For all of us, the most important thing is spread the seeds of reading and make chil-

2008 新春聯歡

Ms. Kay Wen is the newly elected leader of the Taipei Library English Volunteer group. She

kicked off its Annual Convention and shared this year's business plan with the group. One of the top

initiatives this year is an e-newsletter. Members were asked to nominate a name for the newsletter.

The group participated enthusiastically in a brief demonstration and teaching of the cha-cha

steps. Everyone had a bit of exercise and enjoyed the interaction with each other. And best of all, the

activity was conducted by two talented members of the group.

We then had a real feast with varieties of home-made dishes and delicacies brought by the mem-

bers. Later on, English riddle games were played with small prize for each winner. To our surprise,

the children brought by the members won most games.

Finally, the members were asked to vote for the official name of our e-newsletter. Among the

names that were nominated: Happy Land, Fairy-tale Land, English E-Newsletter, EnVol e-News,

"EnVol e-News" got the most votes and was chosen as the official name. We all enjoyed the meeting

and cherished the opportunity to make acquaintance with new members.

I Hadn’t Meant to Tell You This by Woodson, Jacqueline Charlotte Sheedy Agency © 1994, 2003 Book summary: Marie and Lena are both motherless. Marie is black and well off. Lena is white and poor. And in the small town of Chauncey, Ohio blacks and whites don’t mix. But Lena and Marie become friends anyway. One of them has a terrible secret and the other must decide—Is it best to keep it? Or should she tell someone fast?

My Comments:

Targeted for young adults (age 9-12), it may seem easy for adults to read but the story plot and the

compelling words of the author would take you on an emotional roller coaster ride. Once you pick it

up, you won’t want to put in down until you finish it with a wad of tissue in one hand and an under-

standing smile on your face. The strength of the basic human trust and the understanding Marie and

Lena had for each other was enough for them to stand up for themselves against those who still fear

each other (black and whites). While this book deals with racial and class issues, it also touches

upon abuse and domestic problems that we all can relate to one way or the other. As with so many

of her fans, I also wanted to know whatever happened to Lena after this book. The author did not

disappoint us, because she wrote a sequel – “Lena”. Check it out after you read this one!

Don’t Do That by Ross, Tony, Random House © 1991 Book Summary: Nellie’s nose is so pretty that she wins pretty-nose competitions and is given a part in the Christmas play. But then Nellie does something horrid – and finds that her finger is firmly stuck!

My Comments: An extremely funny book for parents to read to children and get a good laugh out of it while learning the lesson Tony Ross is trying to point out to kids – Don’t Pick Your Nose! What do you do when you pick your nose and there’s nothing you or anybody else could do to take your finger out from the nose? While children laugh at the most absurd ways Nellie is han-dled by different people, they also look closely at Nellie’s brother, who volunteers to take Nellie’s finger out from her nose, to see what’s up his sleeves on each page. The ending is truly not what children expected (or maybe yes)! Hold the suspense before you turn to the last page and have kids come up with their own alternatives. You’ll be surprised how crea-tive your child(ren) could be!
