NEWS FROM ST. MICHAEL AND AtL ANGETS CI.IURCH, ESH June 11th st. Barnabus June 24ff Nativity of St. John the Baptist June 2gfr st. peter NB: Short service of evening prayer 4 pm on Sunday Sfi June Parishioners may remember our former vicar the Revd. PaulTyler who left the Ministry to take up a teaching career. I remember him taking groups of youngsters on adventure holidays, including two of my daughters who had a great time on the Scottish West coasu his dog (who often travetled in his matorbike sidecrl); his guitar playing and his long distance cycling - he thought nothing of rycling frorn Langtey park to sond"rlrnd and back to visit Claire during a spell in hospital! So, it was with interest that t read a recent newspaper interview wath him. For eight years Paul has been the Anglican Chaplain at H.M. Prison Frankland where he put togetier a rock band! paul explains that nruch of his work is welfare based one-to-one and he reminds us that, 'None of us is perfecf,. For two years it has been impossible to ring the church bellas the belt ringer would be deluged with gritty debris falling through the rope hsle in the roof. Thanks to Vanessa and David of Lodycraft, who climbed the heights and cleared the debris, it is again possible to ring the bell again- Everyone was delighted to hear it ring out to welcorne worshippers at the end of April. Vicar Michael was probably even more grateful to Lodycraftfor the repairs to the trapdoor in the floor just beyond the font. Michaelcan now baptise babies without the fear of dropping into the crypt betow! This essential and substantial repair was covered by funds raised for the Friends - so thank you to all who have contributed to the Friends since its launch last Christmas. The warm, sunny weather at the beginning of May boosted our spirits and came in perfect time for the Coffee Morning held at Mary and Steve's home. Helped by Maq/s parents and baby jack a wonderful f220.1.0 was raised for general church funds. I loved the novel idea of "Guess the weight of baby Jack competition !" Thank you to all who baked, donated or came along in support. These regular fundraisers ensure that the church insurance is covered every month - an essentialand not inconsiderable expense. Due to the date of the Queen's 90th Eirthday Picnic it was decided to cancel the June coffee Morning and hostess vanessa kindly offered to help with the picnic. However, with a new grandchild due for Carol at the end of June, she and co-host carole have decided to host June, rather than their regular July slot - to be held in church on saturday 4e June 10 .30 am to noon' Please do pop in and browse the book stall, bring/buy a cake and chance your luck on the Tombola. Also in the month of June we celebrate Fatherrs Day on the 19th and experience the longest day of the year, the official first day of summer on the zoth - a date which may be filled with light until late evening but, even with the summer months still ahead of us, always reminds me that the days begin to shorten l Plans are being made for H.M. the Queen's gOth Birthday picnic to be held in the grounds of Esh Hallfrom 1 pm to 4 pm, funday 12th June.
