Overview    A  leading  entertainment  company  responsible  for  operating  several  casinos  and  resorts  within  Australia  were  looking  for  a  trusted  AWS  partner  to  assist  in  the  migration  and  optimisation  of  their  popular  public  websites  to  the  cloud.    

Business  Challenge    Our  customer  was  looking  to  migrate  their  entire  public  website  infrastructure  from  a  third  party  hosted  virtual  platform  into  the  AWS  cloud  to  leverage  the  benefits  of  scalability  and  flexibility.      As  part  of  this  process  they  were  looking  to  implement  DevOps  best  practices  to  automate  and  streamline  their  build  and  deployment  pipeline.  This  involved  a  complete  website  redesign  with  the  introduction  of  new  tools  sets  and  technologies  to  maximise  the  benefit  from  their  investment  in  cloud  infrastructure.  Another  challenge  was  to  seamlessly  cutover  online  services  whilst  ensuring  that  the  customer  experience  and  the  end  to  end  site  performance  was  not  adversely  effected.    

AWS  Backed  Solution    The  AWS  platform  provided  a  number  of  managed  services  that  were  easy  to  deploy  and  enabled  the  customer  to  spend  less  time  on  systems  administration  and  more  time  developing  and  releasing  improvements  and  feature  enhancements  to  their  online  applications.  Configuration  management  tools  such  as  Puppet  were  used  to  build  and  manage  a  consistent  repeatable  fleet.    By  implementing  a  real  time  cross  site  active/active  architecture,  the  need  for  a  full  time  dormant  disaster  recovery  site  was  made  redundant,  thus  reducing  cost  and  resource  wastage.

Benefits    Cloudten  were  able  to  identify  a  number  of  performance  bottlenecks  with  the  architectural  design  during  the  pre-­‐release  stages  of  the  project,  and  provide  tangible  recommendation  to  both  remove  single  points  of  failure  and  improve  end  to  end  reliability.    In  addition  to  AWS  specific  components,  our  in-­‐depth  knowledge  and  experience  with  the  web  middleware  stack,  including  reverse  proxies  and  content  management  systems,  enabled  us  to  become  a  trusted  single  point  of  contact  for  our  customer’s  entire  online  infrastructure.    Our  relationship  with  the  company  has  grown  to  the  extent  that  we  are  now  their  primary  managed  service  provider  delivering  ongoing  consulting  as  well  as  24/7  support  for  complex  AWS  issues.
