TRAVEL LIKE A BIG SUR EXPERT

DO:Take Lots of Pics - Be cautious when using parking pullouts on Highway One and always post using #SeeMonterey!

Be Prepared – Big Sur is large on beauty and small on cellphone service. Discuss meeting locations prior to your arrival in Big Sur and bring hard copies of travel material such as maps, itineraries and booking confirmations.

Plan Ahead – Restrooms are scarce along Highway One, so check out the map on the back for public restroom locations.

Recycle – Please use the appropriate bins and treat Big Sur with care and respect.

Be Mindful of Poison Oak – The triple leaf pattern with a reddish hue, prominent veins and a shiny surface is known to make those in contact itchy and uncomfortable. Be aware and avoid poison oak.

DON’T: Start Fires – Please extinguish cigarettes in ashtrays and always be extra careful that your fire is safe and in an approved location.

Collect – Plants, animals, rocks and artifacts of Big Sur are protected by law and should be left in their natural place.

Set Up Camp on the Roadside – Roadside camping is prohibited along Highway One from Carmel River to the Monterey-San Luis Obispo County line.

Let Pets Run Wild – In State Parks and on US Forest Service lands, pets must be leashed at all times in developed campgrounds, picnic and day use areas. This is not only for their safety, but also for the safety of visitors and other local wildlife as well.
