Quantum Link creator of American Online (AOL) and AIM, created the first IM, for their current customers.

Modern IM as we know it today began to grow in popularity in the mid to late 1990s, starting with ICQ, which identified users by a unique number instead of a user name. AIM and other IM programs followed.

Now, instant messaging programs are more versatile as ever, with advanced features like video chat, voicemail, and group IM sessions. Brosix continues to be on the forefront of this ever-growing trend on instant communication by going back to the roots of IM- a secure, private communication network to make sure conversations and data are safe.
