Rotary District 7780 Carolyn Johnson, District Governor December 30, 2013 Sebago Lake Celebrates 30th Anniversary Sebago Lake Rotary posed for the picture above and celebrated its anniversary last week with a cocktail party and loads of memories from the nine past presidents in aendance, plus a few former and future governors. Old-mers remembered the club’s crical role to bring Rotary to Romania in the early ‘90s, and more recent work in coordinaon with the local food pantry to feed neighbors here at home Interesngly, the club has met (almost) connually in the same restaurant, which has changed its name and its menu at least three mes over the years! Most of all, there was much conversaon and laughter about the club’s signature fundraiser, the ice fishing derby (plan for it coming up on February 15 this year)! Photo Taken During Portland’s Service Trip Featured in Rotarian Magazine Congratulaons to John Curran of the Portland Club, whose photo of a lile girl in the Domini- can Republic runs across two pages (pp 20-21) in the January 2014 issue of the Rotarian maga- zine. John took the photo during the club’s service trip to bring water, prosthec hands and hearing aids to the community last year. Portland Rotary is planning a follow-up service trip this April. If you have a winning photo taken during a Rotary event (either at home or abroad), consider entering it in Rotary Internaonal’s annual photo contest, going on now. Come meet your classmates and plan for “your” year. 5:00 p.m., Fireside Inn in Westbrook, ME, $32 pp. Sat, February 22—Frugal Feast to celebrate World Understand- ing and Peace day, Woodfords Congregaonal Church, Portland. Thursday-Saturday, March 6-8 Presidents-elect Training (PETS) in Framingham, MA. Speakers include RI vice presi- dent Anne Mahews, and our own TRF vice chair Mike McGov- ern. Saturday, April 12 — District Assembly, Westbrook Middle School, 8:00—2:00. Training and planning for the new Rotary year to come. Friday-Saturday, May 16-17 District Conference 2014 in Port- land. Wesn Hotel (formerly the Eastland). District Makes a Difference in Philippines Relief Congratulaons to District 7780 for the incredible support given to our Rotary Partner, Shel- terBox. The District response to the disaster caused by Typhoon Haiyan, the largest and most devastang hurricane on record, has been tremendous. To date the District has provided over $23,000, which will benefit up to 30 families, according to ShelterBox USA staff. A total of 1700 Boxes have been delivered and tents erected, and the total number of Boxes is expected to reach 7800 by the end of February, 2014.
