How electricity is generated in a power station
At the traditional power station, fuel is burned to boil water. This water turns to steam, rising to turn a turbine.
The turbine is connected to a generator. The generator converts the movement of the turbine into electricity.
Quiz – How electricity is generated in a power station
What is the main material burnt in a power station to create steam?
HydrogenHydrochloric Acid Coal
FAILWheeyyyyy….
Evidently you failed, try again
Well done, you did something right, you deserve a medal*Terms & Conditions apply. You will, in fact, not receive a medal
Through what process is the power generated?
Turbines –> Rotors –> Electricity
Electricity –> Turbines –> Rotors
Rotors –> Turbines –> Electricity
FAILWheeyyyyy….
You wanna try again? Maybe not fail… again?
Congrats, you done a question.
Really affecting the world there…
How we use nuclear fuels in a power station.
Nuclear Power video (don’t be dumb, maybe ya scroll down
a little bit and ting…)
TAKE NOTES, YOU’LL BE AWESOMELY QUIZZED LATER… YES IT WILL BE AWESOME.
NUCLEAR
As of July 2008, there were more than 430 operating nuclear power plants and, together, they provided about 15 % of the world's electricity in 2007.
Of these 31 countries, some depend more on nuclear power than others.
For instance, in France about 77 percent of the country's electricity comes from nuclear power Lithuania comes in second, with an impressive 65 percent.
In the United States, 104 nuclear power plants supply 20 percent of the electricity overall, with some states benefiting more than others.
Quiz – Nuclear Power
Instead of burning fossil fuels, at a nuclear power plant they…
Use the generators to nuclearfy stuff
Use nuclear reactions to heat the water
Heat the water using turbines and rotors
FAILWheeyyyyy….
Try again, says Lawrie.
Success, you’re one step closer to becoming Mr. Marshall.
Good Luck with that…
Which well-known television personality works in a nuclear power plant?
FAILWheeyyyyy….
You wanna try again? Maybe not fail… again?
YAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
No, seriously…
LOL jks YAAAAAAAAAAYYYY
Wind Power
Today’s wind turbines have an electric generator in their housing.
The wind turns the blades to drive the generator and therefore create electricity.
Wind power is an example of a renewable and sustainable energy source. The wind will never run out and no carbon dioxide is generated
A diagram…
Advantages and Disadvantages of Wind Power
Advantages DisadvantagesThe wind is free and captured with modern technology it can be efficiently
The strength of the wind is not constant and it varies from zero to storm force.
Once the wind turbine is built the energy it produces does not cause green house gases or other pollutants.
Wind turbines are noisy. Each one can generate the same level of noise as a family car travelling at 70 mph.
Many people find wind farms an interesting feature of the landscape.
When wind turbines are being manufactured some pollution is produced. Therefore wind power does produce some pollution.
Wind turbines have a role to play in both the developed and third world.
Large wind farms are needed to provide entire communities with enough electricity. For example, the largest single turbine available today can only provide enough electricity for 475 homes
Remote areas that are not connected to the electricity power grid can use wind turbines to produce their own supply.
Many people see large wind turbines as unsightly structures and not pleasant or interesting to look at. They disfigure the countryside and are generally ugly.
Which of these is not a reason why some people dislike turbines?
Turbines generate too much noise
Turbines don’t generate enough power
Turbines generate the wrong sort of electricity
FAILWheeyyyyy….
Correct-a-mundo
Viva la mole rat…
