Over the course of the program, you shouldhave the following experiences: Diversity in districts for your field

placements Diversity in grade levels for your field

placements Diversity in working with groups of people

based on ethnicity, race, SES, gender, exceptionalities, language, religion, sexual orientation, and geographical area.

The field experiences are integrated across the semester: one day a week for approximately the

first 10 weeks of the semester, and every day during the last five weeks of

the semester. You provide your own

transportation for the internship.

Conducting criminal background checks on preservice teachers participating in field experiences is a normal procedure for all school systems.

Criminal background checks are conducted through the Office of Field Experiences.

This process must be completed by the date indicated on your information sheet. You will not be placed in a block section until you have completed the background check.

In CI 3110 (Social Studies Methods) you will learn how to develop and implement a service-learning project in YOUR internship classroom.

You will teach an age-appropriate service-learning project connected to the social studies curriculum to the children in your classroom.

With these final 10 hours of service, this will complete your 20 hours of service-learning and ALL 40 hours of your graduation requirement for Elementary Education.

As always you must make an appointment at posted times to meet with your advisor prior to early registration.

You will be placed in a Block II section once your background check is complete and you have passed each of your Block I requirements.

If you have not already done so, you need to apply for a graduation check as soon as possible in the Office of Field Experiences.

This check will help us to ensure that you are on target to graduate with your course requirements fulfilled after you have completed your student teaching semester.

During the end of Block II you will need to take Praxis II test #5015.

Check availability dates and register at Educational Testing Services.

This test is REQUIRED before graduation and to earn your Standard Professional 1 License from the state. You will not be considered for employment without this license.

You will need a score of 161 to pass.

Attend the mandatory student teacher meetings conducted by the Office of Field Experiences.

You will not be allowed to begin student teaching unless you have passed each Block II course with a C or better and continue to maintain a 2.5 GPA.

Through the Reich College of Education, ASU offers education majors the opportunity to student teach in another country.

Currently we work in schools in Costa Rica, Ireland, and Mexico.

Student teachers spend the last 5 weeks of their placement in an international school.
