5 DATE : May 05/04 SERVICE BULLETIN No. : A320—22—1152
This Service Bulletin is issued further to an operator's request in order toinstall new Flight Management and Guidance Computers (FMGCs).
This Service Bulletin replaces the two FMGCs PN B546CAM0103 or PN C13043AA01 bytwo new, mechanically interchangeable FMGCs PN C13043AA02, modified as perTHALES AVIONICS Service Bulletins No. B546CAM-22-009 and No. C13043A-22-002,which incorporate the second generation of Flight Management System (FMS), theso-called FMS2 THALES/SMITHS Rev1 S2C10 standard.
The following new functions have been incorporated in this new FMS2THALES/SMITHS Rev1 standard :
— Temporary F-PLN supporting multiple revisions and undo function
— Improved offset with customized intercept angle
— Wind interpolation
— Improved "DIR TO" activation display.
Furthermore, this new FMS standard is capable of managing Flight Management (FM)operational software and 5 data bases, and of independently data loading orcross loading in order to provide the operator with both flexibility andcustomization capabilities.
The data loading elements are the following :
— Navigation Data Base (NDB)
— FM selected set of options (FM Operational Program Configuration (OPC))
— FM Performance Data Base (PDB)
— Airline Modifiable Information (AMI)

— DIR TO/INTERCEPT capability
— Back beam approach and back course take off
— MACH/SPEED commutation in OPEN mode to avoid some situations of overspeed attransition
— Increase of speed protection authority in forward CG
— Improvement of A320/A321 Altitude (ALT*) and A320 ALT control laws to avoidsurface jerks
— Cancellation of thrust increase in case of overspeed below 150 ft whenAutopilot (AP) off
— Filtering of Localizer (LOC) and Glide/Slope (G/S) deviations to avoidspurious G/S capture in case of perturbation of Instrument Landing System(ILS) beam
— Improvement of G/S capture
— Approach lateral mode kept active upon longitudinal transition
— AP disconnection upon transmitter failure to be more alerting to the crew
— Improvement of speed target management at take off or go around
— Adjustment of A320 AP longitudinal basic loop authority in ALT mode.
— Microwave Landing System (MLS) capability (option)
— Derated take-off capability (option).
Accomplishment of this Service Bulletin will satisfy the operator's request.
The operational consequences of this Service Bulletin are the substitution ofOEB 141, 143 and 144, or OEB 154 and 158 by OEB 157 and the modification of theFlight Manual (FM) and Flight Crew Operating Manual (FCOM) Vol. 1, 2, 3 and 4.
