NOTE: (x) The attrition rates in coIunn3 above have been calculated solely on the basis of "rounds per barrel" and the appropriate ammunition rates in TABLE V U . They take no aocount of the automatic replacement of barrels when complete equipaents are replaced*
(y) This rate is applicable to stellite lined chromim plated barrels. Tith plain steél barrels the rounds per barrel are approximately half.

(Scotion Cj Part i?. Table I (continued)
MOTEBt (i) These rates have been expressed as a percent-age of the unit complement per montfc, The unit complemen-E .is regarded as being the'standard
- number or establishment of'aire raft per unit.
(Ii) Combat Wastage: An aircraft not returning, or an aircraft returning but damaged beyond the capability of the ship or base to repair, be- , cause of damage inflicted by the enemy.
(iii) Operational Wastage: An aircraft not returning, or an aircraft returning but damaged beyond the capability of the ship or base to repair, be-cause of any reason other than damage inflicted by the enemy.
(iv) The loss of aircraft temporarily withdrawn from service for overhaul etc. has not been reflected in the above table* Such temporary loss'would probably be just 1 percent of the unit complement.
(Section C. Partie II. Tableau I (suite)

I. The information given in this tabulation is intended primarily as a logistic planning guide in the long range esti-mation of the POL requirements of naval ships and aircraft operating under wartime conditions*
2. Appropriate national consumption rates for individual ships should, whenever possible, he used for estimating POL requirements» In the absence of appropriate national factors, however, and particularly when planning the logistic support of forces comprising elements of more than one nation, the data provided in this tabulation should be used, but with discretion.
3. The considerable differences between the characteristics of underway replenishment ships and other naval auxiliary vessels, even though their respective roles may be identical, render it impossible to assess useful average consumption figures for these vessels* national data should therefore always be used for the computation of their POL requirements*
