Practical Recommendations
❑ Drives have a side effect – cause Harmonics.
❑ There are no regulations, which require THDi≤5% at drive mains terminals.
❑ Apply IEEE-519 recommended limits at the PCC only and do not to individual pieces
of equipment.
❑ Drive’s Energy Consumption is a main part of the Total Ownership Cost (TOC) –
validation of the harmonic solution losses should be always an objective.
❑ Do not use harmonics mitigation equipment, if it is not needed.

Time shift of productionTime shifting involves storing energy during times when energy costs from the grid are low, and supplying energy from the storage medium when energy costs from the grid are high.
Back-up power or black-out startEnergy storage can be used to provide back-up power during downtime maintaining the ability to operate for a period of time.
Typical applications are:
Peak load shaving for incoming powerPeak shaving involves optimizing energy supply between the incoming grid and the energy storage medium to meet spikes in demand. The excess energy can then be stored when the demand and costs are low.
