African women development fund sponsors chameg

CHAMEG activities

The presence of GTF in a Council has the merit of identifying traditional issues with respect to the integration of gender concern within the council and to development strategies and plan of action to strengthen this integration.

The African Women Development Fund Sponsored Project to replicate Chameg`s successful 2010

actions of enforcing 30% representation of women in local governance through the use of Gender

Task Force is Ongoing in the Bakassi local Councils. A field study to establish the representation of

Bakassi women in local councils has been conducted. It is interesting to note that, in all of

the south west region we have more female Mayors in Ndian division in general and Bakassi in

particular having 2 female Mayors and 1 from mundemba. .The field study will be followed by the organization of a public dialogue to lobby for

the establishment of a Gender Task Force in councils in June

11th February in Bakassi with the mayor and parliamentarian
