    1. Viral Enteric and Emerging Diseases Laboratory2. Viral Respiratory Diseases Laboratory Being responsible for research and diagnoses on influenza, SARS, measles, mumps, VZV, rubella, parovovirus B19, RSV, adenovirus, hMPV, enteroviruses, rotavirus, norovirus, astrovirus, HAV, HBV, HCV, HDV, HEV, HIV-1/HIV-2, and EID (rabies, ebola, nipah, and smallpox).Current research projects:Surveillance on diagnostic quality of HIV and hepatitis B/CMonitoring AFP syndromeSetting up a surveillance network for enterovirus infectionsDeveloping a swift molecular biological diagnostic system for viral respiratory track infections

  • Two Bacterial Laboratories

    1. Bacterial Respiratory Diseases Laboratory 2. Bacterial Enteric and Emerging Diseases Laboratory

    Diagnoses of notifiable bacterial communicable diseases, including Cholera, Plague, Anthrax, Diphtheria, Meningococcal meningitis, Typhoid fever, Paratyphoid fever, Bacillary dysentery, Enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli infection, Pertussis, Scarlet fever, Legionellosis, Haemophilus influenzae type B infection.Diagnoses of non-notifiable bacterial communicable diseases, including Salmonellosis, Melioidosis, Yersiniosis, Lyme disease, Leptospirosis, cat scratch disease, and diseases caused by Campylobacter spp., Vibrio parahaemolyticus, Staphyolcoccus aureus, Bacillus cereus.Researches related to the above bacterial pathogens.

  • Vector-Borne Viral and Rickettsial Diseases LaboratoryResponsible for diagnoses and related research of yellow fever, Dengue, Japanese encephalitis, other flaviviruses (WNV, etc.), Hantavirus, scrub typhus (mite-borne), typhus fever (louse-borne), Q fever, and others (spotted fever, etc.).Ongoing research projects:Establishing a flaviviruse reference laboratory for Asian-Pacific region.Dengue fever sero-epidemiological survey in southern part of Taiwan.Setting up a fluorescence quantitative molecular diagnostic system for rickettsial infectious diseases.Setting up a serological diagnostic system for rickettsia.

  • Mycotic Diseases Laboratory Diagnoses and research of Pathogenic fungi Chlamydia and Mycoplasma. Parasitic Diseases Laboratory Diagnoses and research of malaria andamebic dysentery.

  • Mycobacterial Diseases Laboratory Diagnoses, identification and research of mycobacteria.External quality control of contract laboratory diagnoses.Vector Biology Laboratory Identification, classification, and survey of disease vector insects. Research in pesticides and their application forbest maintaining environment hygiene. Studying the influence of aerosol size on the effectiveness of killing mosquitoes by the pesticide.
