V-6 and V-8 Piston InstallationIMPORTANT: Be sure to install new pistons in samecylinders for which they were fitted, and used pistonsin same cylinder from which they were removed. Eachconnecting rod and bearing cap should be marked, be-ginning at front of engine (1, 3, 5 and 7 in left bank and2, 4, 6 and 8 in right bank). Numbers on connecting rodand bearing cap must be on same side when installedin cylinder bore. If a connecting rod is ever transposedfrom one block or cylinder to another, new bearingsshould be fitted and connecting rod should be num-bered to correspond with new cylinder number.

Cylinder Wall Inspection AndMeasurementMeasure cylinder walls for taper, out-of-round or ex-cessive ridge at top of ring travel. This should be donewith a dial indicator or inside micrometer. Carefullywork gauge up and down cylinder to determine taperand turn it to different points around cylinder wall todetermine out-of-round condition. If cylinders exceedspecifications, boring and/or honing will be neces-sary.
