Abstract:Anewkindofstar-likeliquidcrystalswassynthesizedbytakingtriphenylpyridineascentralcoreconnectedwiththreeperipheral4-alkoxylbenzoyloxygroupsviaesterbond.Themesophasebehaviorofthesecompoundswasinvestigatedwithpolarizingopticalmicroscopy(POM).Nematicandcolumnarmesophasescanbefoundinthesecompounds,withtheelongationoftheterminalalkoxylchains.Themicrosegregationofthemolecularincompatiblepartsandintermolecularπ-πinteractionareconsideredtobethemaindrivingforcesforthemolecularselforganizationtoinduceliquidcrystallineproperties.
