VTP


VLAN Trunking Protocol

• VTP is organized into management domains• A switch can belong to only one VTP domain• Each advertisement contains information about the VTP management

domain, VTP revision number, known VLANs, and specific VLAN parameters.

• Server mode:full control(creat, delete,modify&sync“Default”• Client mode: sync and VTP relay • Transparent mode: do not participate in VTP( VTP relay )• Off mode : not participate and not VTP relay


VTP Advertisements• By default, Cisco switches use VTP Version 1.• VTP Versions 1 and 2 support VLAN numbers 1 to 1005, VTP Version 3 1,4094• VTP advertisements are sent as multicast frames.• You can add a password to set the domain to secure mode• VTP domain servers send summary advertisements every 300 seconds and

every time a VLAN database change occurs.
