1 INTRODUCTION National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disabilities(Divyangjan) was established in the year 2005 at East Coast Road, Muttukadu, Chennai, Tamil Nadu under Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India to serve as a National Resource centre for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disabilities such as those with two or more disabilities in a person. The institute is situated 30 km from Chennai Central Railway Station, mofussil bus terminus and airport. As per RPWD Act, 2016 the disabilities enumerated are Physical Disability, Intellectual Disability, Mental Behaviour, disability caused due to Chronic Neurological conditions, Blood Disorders, Multiple Disabilities including Deafblindness and any other category as may be notified by the Central Government. NIEPMD received National Award for Best Accessible Website and Barrier Free Environment for Persons with Disabilities in 2011 and 2012 respectively. NIEPMD is accredited by NAAC in 2018 and ISO 9001:2015 certified for quality management system in the year 2019. NIEPMD provides services to the clients of all ages having the characteristics of Multiple
Disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Deafblindness Cerebral Palsy Specific Learning
Disabilities along with associated conditions prescribed by RPWD Act, 2016. The Institute has
enhanced its clinical set-up and model school services with different units to cater as per the need
of the persons with disabilities.
There are number of Composite Regional Centre(CRC) been established by Department of
Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Ministry of Social Justice &
Empowerment, Govt. of India, out of which four CRCs were functioning under the administrative
control of NIEPMD. "Reach the un-reached" is the main focus of each centre ie.providing the
rehabilitation services and empowering the persons with disabilities in their respective region.

CRC-K Kozhikode, Kerala
CRC-N Nagpur, Maharashtra
CRC-G Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh
CRC-S Sikkim
NIEPMD facilitates the HRD students to avail various State and Central Government
Scholarship for the students belonging to SC/ST, PWD. For the North East students Institutional,
Hostel and Mess charges will be sponsored by NIEPMD.

1. Diploma Education Special Education (Multiple Disabilities/Autism Spectrum
Disorder/Deafblindness/Cerebral Palsy)
The Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) has conducted an “All India Online Aptitude
Test (AIOAT)” for admission to Diploma/Certificate level courses for the academic year 2019-20
during the month of May 2019. As per the directions of RCI, New Delhi, the selected candidates
of AIOAT will be the qualified candidates for admissions to Diploma programme.
Duration of the Programme: Two years
Total number of Seats: (ASD:25) / (CP:25) / (Db: 30) / (MD: 25)
Admission Eligibility
1. H.Sc / Intermediate.
2. Candidates should have obtained a minimum of 50% of the aggregate (45% for SC/ST) in the
qualifying examination.
3. Candidates should be qualified in the All India Online Aptitude Test (AIOAT) conducted by
Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI).
Mode of Selection
The marks obtained in the qualifying examination i.e., AIOAT conducted by Rehabilitation
Council of India for the current academic year will be considered for selection of candidates, as
notified by RCI from time to time. The qualified candidates will be admitted at the institute
through online admission process.
Reservation of Seats
Government of India norms will be followed.
Evaluation Procedure: As per norms of NIEPMD-NBER & NIEPVD-NBER.

6. Candidates passed their UG/PG in other state should submit migration certificate.
7. North East candidates should submit their Domicile certificate / Document in support of
having passed XII Std from NE States.
8. Candidates opting for hostel accommodation at NIEPMD should accompany with their local
guardian at the time of admission.
9. In all issue, the decision of the Director, NIEPMD is final.

The downloaded application form duly filled in should be forwarded to the Director, NIEPMD with
application fee of 500/- (250/- for SC / ST/PH) by way of demand draft in favour of Director NIEPMD.
