Goals:

sexual violence against

women in Liberia

• Improve the health and

socio-economic status of

and non-surgical

treatment for obstetric

and traumatic fistula

Eliminating Obstetric Fistula in Liberia

US$600,000

October 2015 Update • 50 survivors were rehabilitated and

reintegrated into their communities.

• 33 survivors were followed up with after leaving

the rehabilitation center. Of those 33, all were

still practicing the economic skills they acquired

at the rehabilitation center. Five expanded

their businesses from the original starter kits and

28 were on track to acquire enough income to

sustain their families.

• 1 survivor who became pregnant again was

closely monitored and delivered a healthy

baby by cesarean section, without fistula.

HIV-Free Generation in Rwanda

US$800,000 Goals:

• To contribute to a nation free of

AIDS and build an HIV free

generation.

• To support the national scale-up

strategy for One Stop Centers

• To invest in community-based

prevention of violence against

women and children

• Improve access to HIV prevention

and care in underserved and

vulnerable populations

• Strengthen national capacity for programming for

HIV positive adolescents and HIV health systems

• Implement and monitor standard package of

minimum multi-sectoral protection services for

victims of violence

• Empower women and girls to protect and claim their

rights to safety and dignity

Gender Responsive Schools in

Vietnam US$644,000

Goals:

• To create a school

environment for adolescent

girls and boys across Hanoi

that is free from gender-based

violence

• Promote gender equal norms

and respond to gender-based

violence in and around 20

schools in Hanoi

• Actively engage

adolescent school children

in preventing and

responding to school-

related gender-based

violence

• Hanoi Department of Education and Training

recognizes the Gender Responsive Schools model,

continues to implement the model in project schools,

and takes action to scale it up in the school system

October 2015 Update

• The survey conducted in early May with 800 students

indicates that more than 70% of surveyed students

have made positive changes after one year

participating in the project. They are the true makers

of the sustainable change because

• they now provide support to their friends who

are victims of violence;

• they change their attitudes and treatment

towards other friends;

• they also talk more with friends about GBV.

• Nearly half of the students said they actively search

for more information about GBV, sex and gender and

other related topics.

Delaying Early Marriage in Niger

• To reduce early marriage and

early pregnancy in four

regions of Niger

• Reach 25,000 adolescent girls

over 2 years; 400,000

members of their community

will benefit from increased

awareness.

Delaying Early Marriage in Niger

Adolescents will:

• Develop health, social, and

economic assets

• Know their rights and be in a

stronger position to defend them

• Be safer and have a measure of

protection against violence

• Have the basic tools required to

lead fuller lives as adults

• Be able to actively participate in

the socio-economic development

of their communities.

October 2015 Update

• 5 workshops were held across the country;

• 127 safe places selected;

• 122 mentors and 21 community facilitators

recruited.

• 15 trainers and 5 regional supervisors trained;

• 12 trainers and 127 facilitators received literacy

training;

• More than 10,000 adolescent girls in 7 of 8 regions

of the country recruited;

• Year two project started in August 2015 with a goal

of reaching 16,000-20,000 girls.

Voices Against Violence

Goals:

• To prevent and reduce

gender discrimination and

violence against women

and girls through non-

formal education and youth

engagement and

leadership

• Increase awareness and knowledge of gender based

violence through non-formal education activities

• Develop action plans for participants to roll out the

curriculum

Update October 2015

• Training in India in December, 2014:

• 46 participants were trained from seven countries

within the Asia-Pacific region — Fiji, India, Japan,

Korea, Malaysia, Philippines and Sri Lanka.

• Training in Zambia in April 2015

• 44 participants (national trainers) were trained from

eight countries within the Africa and Europe regions,

including Denmark, Italy, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria,

Portugal, South Africa and Zambia.

• National training plans were developed at the end

of the training in both workshops.
