What is the SBDC?
The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) provides consulting and training to current and prospective business owners and not for profits.
The East Colorado region of the Colorado Small Business Development Center Network is hosted by the Monfort College of Business at the University of Northern Colorado. The Center serves the counties of Weld, Morgan, Logan, Sedgwick, Phillips, Washington, Adams, Arapahoe, Elbert, Yuma, Kit Carson, Cheyenne, and Lincoln Counties.
What can the SBDC do for you?To start you will be matched with a consultant based on your agenda, location, and business goals. Together, you will chart your course for success. You meet with one or more consultants, short-term or long-term, depending on your needs. Your information is kept strictly confidential.
Consulting topics most often requested include:
Marketing plans you can afford
Loan application review
Accounting and QuickBooks questions
Cash flow projections
Management and human resources
Staged business growth
Grant proposal reviews
Buying or selling a business
Selling to the federal and state governments
Improving social media campaigns
Calculating break-even
Owners of businesses or directors of not for profits consistently say the confidential consulting
is invaluable to planning and achieving goals.
How is the SBDC funded?
The Small Business Development Center program is a cooperative effort of the private sector; the educational community; and federal, state and local governments. The East Colorado SBDC is hosted by Monfort College of Business at the University of Northern Colorado.
What type of education is offered?
The East Colorado Small Business Development Center also offers workshops and courses on topics you need from accounting to website setup. They include half-hour mini-courses, lunch-and-learn meetings and one on one meetings to write a business plan.
In addition, if you have an idea for a class, we would like to hear about it. Chances are, other business people need it, too.
What resources are available on the internet?
Three of our favorite websites are:
Small Business Administration:www.sba.gov
Colorado Business Resource Book:www.coloradosbdc.org/resources
Free E-Learning Videos:www.EastColoradoSBDC.com/training/free-elearning-videos
Did you know that free guidance, low-cost education and government-guaranteed loans
are available to entrepreneurs? ““We came to the SBDC with the idea of opening a donut shop. With the
help of the counselor, we found the right franchise for us, looked at different options for a location and received excellent assistance in
creating and reviewing our business plan. The SBDC was there to pose the right questions and to help us think through the process of starting our
business.” -Linda and Patrick Allour, Daylight Donuts
“After meeting with the SBDC I have built a solid business plan, applied for a 504 SBA loan and been approved by three different banks. I have no doubt
that this would not have been possible without the diligent work, time, contacts and knowledge the SBDC poured into my business.”
-Julie Kisic, PC Therapy
“The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) has been very instrumental in the growth of our business. The professional and expert
advice offered by their counselors helps develop our marketing, networking, and financial strategies. The SBDC has been an invaluable resource for our business, and we highly encourage business owners to
take advantage of this very beneficial and free service!” - Andrea & Erik Truchses of Contemporary Cook Cafe
