What types of grants do we offer?2 TYPES OF GRANTS TO FUND YOUR CSL PROJECTS

CSL Mini-GrantOverview

◦ Projects should address health disparities in the San Antonio/South Texas community

◦ Grant awards are $500◦ Individual or group may apply, but must designate one (1) student leader for

the grant.◦ Each project must have a UTHSA faculty mentor and a partnering community

organization.◦ Funds can be used for project supplies, printing costs, educational materials,

and mileage reimbursement.

Who can apply?◦ Any UTHSA student may apply

CSL Midi-GrantOverview

Midi-grants have the same requirements as mini-grants. Additionally:

◦ Projects must demonstrate extensive mentor involvement, have a clear plan for sustainability, and include a scholarship aspect

◦ Grant awards are $2,000-$4,000.◦ Funds can be used for project supplies, printing costs, educational materials,

mileage reimbursement, scholarship activity (publication development, conference presentation, research).

Who can apply?◦ Any UTHSA student may apply

Finding a project & mentorAll projects must have a UTHSA faculty mentor and a

community partner.

Special consideration to these 2 types…BUT APPLICATIONS ARE NOT RESTRICTED TO THESE. ALL PROJECT TYPES ARE ELIGIBLE.

1. Counties surrounding Bexar

Special consideration will be given for projects taking place in

the counties immediately surrounding Bexar County.

San Antonio

2. Interprofessional projectsSpecial consideration will be given to interprofesssional

projects.

Application processHOW DO I APPLY FOR A CSL GRANT?

Application process: OverviewApply through the online CSL Directory: www.texashumanities.org/CSLdirectory

1. Log in with your UTHSA credentials (username and password)2. Click on the light blue “Submit CSL Funding Application” icon3. On application, check whether you are applying for a mini-grant or midi-grant.4. Make sure your mentor has created a profile in the CSL Directory so their name

will appear in the dropdown list.5. Upload a letter of support from your mentor and from your community partner

through the online application.6. Save a draft until you are ready to submit. It’s always wise to save your

application as a WORD document as a back-up.

Deadline is 5pm on September 6, 2017

Scoring ProcessoApplications are scored by a committee of interprofessional reviewers

oStandard rubric used (viewable in CSL Directory)

oIf midi-grant application is not awarded, it will automatically be considered for a mini-grant

oAward decisions announced no later than September 22.

Award RequirementsGrant Orientation

Attended by student leader and mentor

Reporting Outcomes Report on hours and project outcomes Create and present a poster at Annual CSL Conference on February 3, 2018

Grant Funds Funds will be disbursed to mentor through departmental transfer

Tips for writing a competitive application

Application Tips◦ CSL hours includes time for preparation, evaluation, reflection, and conference ◦ Be sure to include thoughtful letters of support from your mentor and your

community partner. ◦ Write measureable objectives (more on next slide).◦ Provide evidence that the issue for which you seek funding needs to be

addressed.◦ Show how your approach to the issue makes sense.◦ Describe how your project will be evaluated and what will happen after the grant

period.◦ After drafting your application, make it tighter, leaner, shorter, and more

appealing.◦ Have your mentor critique the proposal.
