GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION:
Skikda is situated in north eastern Algeria; it is a seaside town, with a
population of about 804,697 inhabitants and an area of 413768 km².Bordered by
the Mediterranean Sea in the north, and neighbouring Annaba from the east,
Constantine and Guelma by the south and Jijel by the west.

CLIMATOLOGY:
Skikda has a Mediterranean climate which is characterised by two main
seasons:
-A soft and rainy winter.
-A hot and dry summer.
The rainy season is stretching over from October to March in which the littoral
is well served, more particularly the west region on the massive of Collo
(between 700mm and 1200mm/per year).While the dry one starts from April till
September.

ECONOMY:
Much of the economy of Skikda is based upon port activities, mainly export of
liquefied gas, locally refined oil and petrochemical products. Natural gas is
transported by pipe lines from the Hassi R’mel fields 600KM south-west and oil
from the Hassi Messaoud fields 750KM south.Skikda also exports mineral
products such as lead, marble and iron.

Agriculture:
With an area of 19000 hectares, the plant and animal remains average. The main
crops are vegetables, citrus, olive and strawberry.
Energy:
Skikda is also the petrochemical platform, forming a vast landscape of the vats
and flares, which cover 1,500 hectares and includes a pipeline terminal and
pipeline, power plant, a refinery, liquefaction units gas, a chemical unit of
polymer.

HISTORY:
Skikda was a trading port established by the Phoenician, during these days, the
city was known as Sinus Numidicus.the trading city was destroyed later. during
the heydays of the roman empire the city flourished again.Skikda was known as
Rusicade which is a penic word that means promontory of fire. This important
Roman port was destroyed by the Vandals in the 5th
century. In due course,
Skikda was colonized by the European colonizers. The modern city of Skikda
was originally founded by the French colonizers who reigned the country till the
half of the 20th
century, the French rulers changed the ancient name of the city
into Philippeville.with the Algerian war of independence in 1962 Skikda was
renamed.

Skikda is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Algeria, if you are

The ruins of the Phoenician and the Roman era are the most attractive places
that you should not miss in your visit of Skikda.
You can visit Stora where can admire the old counter Phoenician and Roman
fishing port and marina, sandy beaches and various infrastructures. The cornice
Stora offers to walkers, in 3km, stuning views of the sea and the horizon. One
can also admire the ancient refuge of Phoenician galleys, or you can sail to
Sirigina Island not far from the coast and imposing light house that stands there
a former landmark for old boats in search of history alongside.

In the east coast of Skikda you can enjoy the sandy beaches of L’arbi Ben
Mhidi as far as the eye can see, out of 10km to mount Filfila, where you can
admire the sunsets on summer evenings.

Farther to the east, Lmarsa is a seaside resort located 65km east of the wilaya,
with it’s beaches of rare beauty it has a fishing port and a marina and a variety
of fauna and flora to proliferate for a vast west land consisting of rivers and
lakes support the development of scientific tourism, fishing, hunting and

Located in the western part of Skikda Collo is a small touristic town, famous by
it’s wonderful natural views and it’s fantastic beaches which are considered as
one of the most beautiful of Algeria. the region also boasts an impressive forest
area which may develop mountain tourism, sports, discovery, and hunting. If
you visit Collo do not miss the delicious grilled sardines while having a great
view of the sunset. Tamanart, Bay girls, Teleza, Benzouit, are the most known
beaches in Collo and offer vacationers a splendid setting for relaxation and
escape.

You can go to the south in the region of Azzaba to relax in one of the two
natural hot springs under therapeutic confirmed; source Essalhine steam, Source
of Hammem El Hamma.
Strawberry Festival:
Strawberry of Skikda also called the Rusicade is very famous, either by it’s very
excellent quality or high ranked taste.
As every year the strawberry festival takes place, and lasts 03 days and focuses
on the production of these delicious fruits in Algeria and especially in Skikda,
various cultural events, arts and sports are planned. Also a competition to
reward, on the advice of a jury, the best samples provided by 120 farmers in the
region specializing in the production of strawberries and to reward the greatest
strawberry cake ... Various exhibitions craft and arts and sports competitions in
swimming, judo, soccer, cycling, billiards and half marathon that will enliven
the festival concludes with an artistic gala.. We should also remember that the
strawberry was made in Algeria in 1920 by a Colon, Italian origin, who
extended the culture in the area of Stora in Skikda.
