SPECIALSThe Specials schedule for 5th grade is different from the one you might be used to in fourth grade. We rotate specials in this order:

1. Music.2. Panther Principles3. D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything And Read) or G.R.A.D.E. (Gang Related and Drug Education)4. Code Academy5. P.E.6. Spanish

This means that if today we went to P.E., we will then continue down the list to Friday which will be Spanish. THEN the following Monday we will go to their 6th special, Music. So specials are no longer attached to a specific day. Students will be responsible for knowing which special they have each day. My webpage will also have the Specials for that week.If there is no school during the week, the rotation will also have a “day off” meaning we pick up where we left off on the rotation once school resumes.

*Students will have projects/book reports every month. *Please make sure they are turned in on time. The projects will be detailed and will include a rubric, which helps you understand what is expected. *Please make sure you read carefully through the entire project. Also, the students are required to do 95% of project. If someone other than the student does the project, this will result in project being returned and points will be taken off. *If your child is absent the project will be due on his/her arrival. Projects will be modified to fit your child’s needs. • Consequences for not completing projects:* One day late, I will accept. 10 points off.• Two days late, the project will not be accepted and

student will receive an “F”.

Book Reports& Projects

HOMEWORK• Homework is given on a daily basis and will be turned in daily as well.

• Students are given spelling words on a weekly basis and they will be given a test on Friday.

• Homework will be averaged as part of your child’s grade.

• Please make sure your child completes his/her homework daily.

• If your child is ill or another serious matter has occurred please send a note excusing your child. Excessive amounts of “ No Homework” will result in parent/teacher conference.

- EACH FRIDAY, STUDENTS TAKE A SPELLING, VOCABULARY TEST, AND READING TEST.

- MATH, SOCIAL STUDIES AND SCIENCE TESTS ARE GIVEN ONLY WHEN UNITS ARE COMPLETED.

- PLEASE CHECK PINNACLE WEEKLY TO --- TRACK YOUR CHILD’S PROGRESS.

What happens

when I am absent?

WHEN YOU ARE ABSENT/TARDY…

* If student is absent they must bring in a doctors note regarding the reason in order to be excused.

* When student is absent they will have all missed work on top of their desk. If they had to take a test on that day they will make it up on the day of their arrival.

*All missed work is due no later than two days after their arrival.

* If student is tardy they MUST first report to the office and receive a tardy pass before entering the room.

Making up work after an excused absence:

• If Parents knows their child will be absent for an extended period of time, please email and let the teacher know ahead of time, therefore, work can be organized.

• Work will not be counted for if absence was not excused.
